Brewers sign Julian Tavarez
Doug Melvin is apparently going to sign "veteran closer" Julian Tavarez to fill out the bullpen.
General manager Doug Melvin just told us that Tavarez worked out for the club here and will accompany the Brewers back to Milwaukee after the game today. If he passes a physical this evening -- which is considered a formality -- he will be activated for the game tomorrow against Atlanta.
Melvin is looking to add an experienced arm to the bullpen after the recent losses to injury of closer Eric Gagne and set-up man David Riske. The Brewers have had to call up three pitchers on this three-city swing to fill out the bullpen -- Mark DiFelice, Zach Jackson and Tim Dillard.
Wait until the "casual fans" find out that in addition to not being all that good... he's kinda a jerk, too!
So where is Luis Pena, again?

Wow
This isn’t gonna be easy to root for him. Hopefully he only comes in when the team is down by 10 or so runs.

to earn this attitude stigma attached to him

Whenever prince is at first, he should charge the mound and yell "MEAT!"

"Kinda a jerk"
might be he friendliest description Tavarez has gotten from a non-relaive in several years.

I wonder if it means Riske is worse off than reported
Still it seems desperate and not likely to make much difference.

Same question
I had the same question. I thought he was placed on the 15 day DL on the 9th. So he should be available to return, unless it’s worse then they said.

If only it were 2004
We would have an awesome bullpen.

Who gets sent down?
DiFelice would be my guess, feel-good story and all.

I would agree
Keep Jackson as the 2nd lefty, and Dillard has looked good so far.

Nuts
Crazy – 2003
“After Tavarez hit him with a pitch, Atlanta Braves outfielder Gary Sheffield glared while slowly walking to first. He carried his bat the entire 90 feet and only gave it up upon reaching the first base bag. “

Just curious, but where's the line?
One member of the current starting rotation has (in)famously hit a guy in retaliation. Taveras is a jerk, but guys like Mota aren’t exactly friendly either.

How can you guys be so short sighted?
Manny Ramirez could be a free agent this off-season. What better way to entice him to come to Milwaukee than having his sidekick already under contract?
Just imagine how interesting a Ramirez/Braun/LaPorta outfield could be.
