Here are some photos of last night's heroes: Hardy, Hall, and Cameron
Remember yesterday, when some kid named Eli destroyed his credibility by suggesting the Brewers were getting ready to DFA Bill Hall? Today he thinks they'll trade Ben Sheets. I'm going to go ahead and pull him off my reading list so he'll stop wasting our time.
Coming off a split with the Nats, the Brewers have dropped to 20th in the most recent Bugs and Cranks poll.
Ok, so Tuesday was light on Brewer news, but it's heavy on injuries:
Pat Burrell was scratched from last night's game with stiffness in his neck.
Eric Byrnes has been placed on the DL to give him some time to recover from tweaked hamstrings.
Braves OF Matt Diaz has been placed on the DL with a strained PCL in his knee after a collision with the wall last night.
Travis Hafner missed his second straight game last night with a sore shoulder.
Yankees P Ian Kennedy left last night's start with a strained muscle in his rib cage.
Daisuke Matsuzaka complained of shoulder fatigue last night after the third inning, but was still sent out for one more inning before being pulled.
Cards P Joel Piniero has missed one start and may miss more with a sore groin.
Gary Sheffield has been placed on the DL with a strained oblique.
Frank Thomas left last night's game with a strained quad and will get an MRI today.
Matt Wise is headed back to the DL with weakness in his shoulder.
Tim Lincecum isn't hurt at the moment, but Dave Pinto at Baseball Musings is scared the Giants will run him into the ground. He threw over 120 pitches last night, and has gone 110 or more five times this season.
Oh, and I love Mitch Hedberg.
Drink up.

Anybody been to Cincinatti?
Hope this isn’t a hijack. Seemed like a better place to put it than a fan post or fan shot.
In a couple weeks I’m going to Cincy for work, and i’d like to check out a game or three at Great American Ballpark. I was just wondering if anybody’s been there. If so any recommendations for my visit? Thanks!
Steve

You might be better off posting a fanpost, to snag people's attention.
Probably also worth posting a fanshot at the Reds blog, to get their thoughts.

I lived there for a year
The Montgomery Inn is the best barbecue restaurant anywhere, and I strongly recommend it. It is a nice, sit-down restaurant, but is not too expensive. There is one downtown on the riverfront., but the original is in a Northeast suburb, and has lots of sports decorations (mostly Cincinnati teams).
Plenty of nightlife downtown on the riverfront, especially the Kentucky side, but there are also lots of bars in an area called Mt. Adams.

Closer on the market?
http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/7468/news;_ylt=AuL.8qLW7EI8RfqOCFcX5JyFCLcF
Would be a nice additional, especially being a young and overall reliable arm… he is on my fantasy team, so that is why it is from Yahoo Sports… but if the Brewers could deal Gywnn for him, as he wouldn’t be just a rental player, but our closer for two years, might not be a bad matchup.

Gwynn?
I think the Brewers would need to do substantially better than Gwynn to work out that trade.

True
But a combo of Gywnn and someone who is a promising A pitcher, or some draft picks from this year’s draft… I know even that it is unlikely that the A’s would do that, so they would probably need some major league players…. I don’t know who exactly they would trade, but I think they should be interested with the way our bullpen is looking right now

Draft picks can't be traded
Until a year after they’re drafted. So in June, the 2007 picks would be eligible.

But draft picks can be added as a PTBNL now
That said I don’t think the A’s have much, if any, interest in Gwynn. A guy like Gamel or LaPorta they probably covet more but I don’t think that deal works from our end then.

I would be shocked by a trade with the As
Melvin’s signature flaw, as far as I’m concerned, is that he’s convinced everyone that drives a hard bargain is out there to rip him off. And so he doesn’t make any big or risky deals because he’d rather say “at least I didn’t get ripped off” than take a chance on a fairly valued deal. Billy Beane will actually try to rip him off, so the A’s are way outside the probable range of Brewer trades.

At least...
They’re outside the probable range for trades not involving Keith Ginter.

Agreed.
Gwynn isn’t the kind of player Beane would want, anyway. He’s not really undervalued…in fact, I think he’s significantly overvalued.

I saw this when checking out the Hedberg link
via lonestar ball via mlb.com – Josh Hamilton on his grand slam last night
“That’s the most frustrated I’ve ever been hitting a grand slam in my life,” he said. “I was having trouble picking up the ball … I actually closed my eyes for a split-second because I thought it was going to [curve] in and maybe hit me. I heard it hit [the bat] and opened my eyes back up, and there it went.”

I think it’s time to step it up Marty. You cant’ let the Fire Cox vitriol be more intense then the Fire Yost right?

It was just as salty. Lots of it. I couldn’t help but think what it would be like if Cox retired and they hired Yost. Mark A. made it sound last night as if he’ll be here a while though.

Hey all...
...I come in peace. Just lurking around and noticed you enjoyed our little tirade after the game last night. You gotta admit it was a questionable scenario to leave Hudson and Diaz in there to hit in the bottom of the 7th. And even more questionable to keep Hudson in there against Fielder with 2 outs, especially with the way Cox has played matchups in the late innings so far this year.
When you’re 2-12 on the year in 1-run games, moves like that are going to get questioned in a hostile nature.
Good luck tonight. Go Braves.

We do have your guy's understudy...
and with last night’s strategy, I see where he picked up some of those habits. I tend to see Cox as a good manager, but that was questionable at best in the eighth inning there.

What's ridiculous about the idea of trading Sheets?
It may very well happen in just a few months.
