Game Thread #64: Brewers (33-30) at Astros (32-32)
Since the last time the Brewers and Astros met, the Brewers have started to play like they were supposed to, and the Astros have done the same.
The weak link is Roy Oswalt, tonight's starter for Houston, who has pitched more like Jeff Suppan is supposed to. He hasn't had any truly disastrous outings, but he's held the opposition to fewer than three runs only once in 13 starts. That's not the perennial Cy Young Award contender we've grown accustomed to.
Seth McClung, on the other hand...he's coming off a strong start against the D-Backs, and has had two respectable outings in three tries. I'll take it. It isn't entirely up to him, but the better he pitches, the more likely Jeff Weaver exercises his out clause this weekend and becomes a New York Met. Or something.
Game time is 7:05. Here's the BR Game Preview.
Go Brewers!

With Weeks on the DL, major line-up adjustments tonight

Bill Hall 2B

Just how many strikeouts will the 5,6 & 7 spots have tonight?

I love Corey at the top of the lineup
However the 5,6, & 7 spots scare me too. I’ll give Yost credit on this one, though. I believe this is the best possible lineup under the circumstances.

Corey leading off?
But who will bunt us over in the 5th spot?

How about that. I wonder how regular of an occurrence that’ll be.

What, no Counsell?
Then again, McClung’s hitting better than he is…
(Is it just me, or has anyone else noticed that Counsell just looks bored out of his mind whenever he’s playing?)

Bill has good numbers against Oswalt
While in general I don’t like like Ned going by those numbers I don’t think it is too bad in this case. Oswalt will give up some homes and that short porch is just so inviting. Plus how much advantage is the platoon split anyway. Defensively though I am not as sold.

Not complaining, just puzzled
I’m just surprised that Ned’s using Counsell as the replacement of last resort lately. He’s started Dillon over him at 2B already. I’m with you on Hall’s defense, though.

I was thinking about Weeks being on the DL
and then I realized that it is all part of “the Plan”. Once he returns there is almost a guarantee of him making a couple rehab starts in Nashville. If I think hard enough I can recall his last trip down there and the spectacle that followed. There is no doubt that this will be the results the 2nd time around as well, at least I can hope for that.

McClung is pitching on 6 days rest right?
Same for Parra tomorrow. I kind of wished they would have skipped his start and pushed him back to the twins series. Lefties do poorly at Minute Maid and most of the key bats for the Twins are left handed.

We can't bring up Weaver

Zelous Wheeler is called up before Yost’s firing, if only so Ned can call out “Hey, Zelousy.”

$29 mil for the next three years for an A pitcher. That may be enough to crush his confidence. Speaking of which, has Turnbow found the strike zone yet?

at least it didn't end in disaster
How’d Tejada get on base? The silly text play-by-play which is the only thing I have access to won’t tell me.
Hopefully he’ll calm down in the 2nd and we’ll score some runs. Runs help.

I'm not so sure. McClung's reaction looked like he was honestly frustrated with hitting Tejada.
Not to mention the fact that I doubt they really wanted to put anyone on in front of Berkman.
