Game Thread #65: Brewers (33-31) at Astros (33-32)

Tonight it's Manny Parra against Brandon Backe.  Last time those two squared off, Parra pitched well and the Brewers got the win.  But that was at Miller Park, while the Juice Box may be the least LHP-friendly park in the majors.

I'm going to try this again, since it worked so well last time: The Brewers won't suck tonight.  I promise.

Game time is 7:05 CT, and here's the BR Game Preview.

Go Brewers!

Counsell in at second base

According to the JS blog. Apparently Kendall and the second baseman switching spots doesn’t count as a lineup change in Witrado’s mind, though since he wrote yesterday’s changes remained “in tact” who knows what he’s really trying to say.

No Bill Hall

But Mike Cameron gets to stay in the lineup.

That's because Counsell can't play CF

...although he’s never tried, has he? Someone should bring that to Yost’s attention, ASAP.

Reading JS Blog

makes me mad at Ned again. Here I thought he was going to let Hall get almost all of the time at second with a Branyan/Dillon platoon at 3rd. According to that, Hall will only play at second “if he matches up well with a right-handed pitcher”.

Which is better, offensively and defensively? I know what my vote is:

2B: Hall, Irabarren against some righties
3B: Branyan/Dillon

2B: Counsell, Dillon, occasionally Hall and maybe Irabarren
3B: Branyan/Hall

Village Pub

So I recently moved to Shorewood and indulged in “Tuesday 2 Dollar Fatboy Pabsts” while watching the game at the local watering hole. A local guy struck up a conversation with me, turns out. He grew up in Whitefish bay and knew Craig.

If Craig ends up at the VP some night, should I just punch him in the mouth and tell him to free Bill Hall? :)

by SgtClueLs on Jun 11, 2008 6:14 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Ha, the Village Pub

Do you ever go to the Brit Inn?

He's extremely quick and good.

by battlekow on Jun 11, 2008 6:17 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Not yet..

That’s across the street, I’ve been there about 5 years ago but I haven’t ventured out much since I’ve been moving crap. I’m tired of unpacking crap.

Baseball?

It’s a soccer bar, alas.

He's extremely quick and good.

by battlekow on Jun 11, 2008 6:30 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Don't do that!

His only redeeming value is that a lot of fangirls find him attractive. Don’t spoil it for them! ;)

by morineko on Jun 11, 2008 6:18 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

I wouldn't punch Counsell

You ever see Spiderman 3? Counsell is one of the villains.

The Bill E situation has inspired me

Ned Yost is absolutely dog-sh!t on the road, probably even worse than Bill E against righties. So why don’t we have a strict platoon where Ned is just left behind in Milwaukee and we call a manager up from the minors to handle the split?

Same Brewer fun, but with 50% less Yost.

by Getting Yosted on Jun 11, 2008 6:06 PM CDT   1 recs

BRILLIANT!

The Wallbangers won because they played the game like kids! Let's do that again!!!

by 80badger on Jun 11, 2008 6:14 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Or the Hall at second situation could apply

Like Witrado said on the blog:

As I said yesterday, Hall will only see time at second base if he matches up well against a right-handed pitcher.

We only bring in Ned if he matches up well against a certain team. For example, whenever the Brewers play the Pawtucket Red Sox. Or Seattle Mariners. Or something like that.

by jihad on Jun 11, 2008 6:19 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Know who else sucked as a manager on the road (compared to how he did at home)?

Cap Anson. Guy had a .658 winning percentage at home but it dipped to .493 on the road.

That’s what he is.

Jeffress is dealing

3 IP, 7 K’s, 0 hits, 0 walks, 0 runs.

Live Box Score

by jihad on Jun 11, 2008 7:11 PM CDT   0 recs

All seven swinging.

Guys he’s facing must be thinking, why is this guy in single A?

by jihad on Jun 11, 2008 7:13 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

We're waiting to match him up with D-Train

If he has more Ks than Willis has earned runs allowed he gets bumped up to AA.

The Southern League would forfeit all their games against Huntsville

If even more prospects are put there.

Through 4 innings now

He gave up a walk and then a double, it looks like, but managed to strike out the side anyway and now has 10 K’s through 4.

by jihad on Jun 11, 2008 7:30 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

So this is why he's dominating

The Lakeland lineup starts with Ott, Roof, and Iorg.

Branyan walk

that was not the true outcome I was expecting at 0 and 2.

Also, cheese.

Jeffress out of the game

Fell apart in the fifth. Still, 10 Ks in 4.1 innings is another step forward in my opinion.

by jihad on Jun 11, 2008 7:53 PM CDT   0 recs

the big question...

could he strike out brett lawrie?

Also, cheese.

by Jeff Sackmann on Jun 11, 2008 7:54 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

No one can strike out Brett Lawrie.

Except

Seriously though, I love Lawrie’s swing. Soooo smooth. Love how he picks up his hands before starting the swing.

by ol Pete on Jun 11, 2008 7:56 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

What is the deal here?

Gameday tells me Russell Branyan just homered to give the Brewers a 2-1 lead. Jim Powell tells me differently.

by jihad on Jun 11, 2008 8:05 PM CDT   0 recs

Carlos Lee homered Wiggington struck out

Yeah I was gonna ask...

How did the Astros get three runs?

He's extremely quick and good.

Branyan's homer still up there

and that’s not even his homer, unless there’s some voodoo going on.

So wait...

Last time I looked, the Astros had two on and two out and the score was tied 1-1. I that was the bottom of the second. I gather that Branyan and Cameron homered to give the Brewers two more runs, and I saw the Hart homer. Lee hit a two-run shot in the third?

He's extremely quick and good.

somehow that caused a rip in the space time continuum. Somewhere is a gameday operator doing just fine, just not in this dimension.

Sorry.

I was a bitter DS9 fan who couldn’t believe the way they shuffled that show off to the side and stole their writers to save Voyager when no one was watching. And Janeway was awful. Just awful.
