Game Thread #65: Brewers (33-31) at Astros (33-32)
Tonight it's Manny Parra against Brandon Backe. Last time those two squared off, Parra pitched well and the Brewers got the win. But that was at Miller Park, while the Juice Box may be the least LHP-friendly park in the majors.
I'm going to try this again, since it worked so well last time: The Brewers won't suck tonight. I promise.
Game time is 7:05 CT, and here's the BR Game Preview.
Go Brewers!

Counsell in at second base
According to the JS blog. Apparently Kendall and the second baseman switching spots doesn’t count as a lineup change in Witrado’s mind, though since he wrote yesterday’s changes remained “in tact” who knows what he’s really trying to say.
Obscure baseball records and more at my blog, Recondite Baseball.
No Bill Hall
But Mike Cameron gets to stay in the lineup.

That's because Counsell can't play CF
...although he’s never tried, has he? Someone should bring that to Yost’s attention, ASAP.
Reading JS Blog
makes me mad at Ned again. Here I thought he was going to let Hall get almost all of the time at second with a Branyan/Dillon platoon at 3rd. According to that, Hall will only play at second “if he matches up well with a right-handed pitcher”.
Which is better, offensively and defensively? I know what my vote is:
2B: Hall, Irabarren against some righties
3B: Branyan/Dillon
2B: Counsell, Dillon, occasionally Hall and maybe Irabarren
3B: Branyan/Hall
Village Pub
So I recently moved to Shorewood and indulged in “Tuesday 2 Dollar Fatboy Pabsts” while watching the game at the local watering hole. A local guy struck up a conversation with me, turns out. He grew up in Whitefish bay and knew Craig.
If Craig ends up at the VP some night, should I just punch him in the mouth and tell him to free Bill Hall? :)
Not yet..
That’s across the street, I’ve been there about 5 years ago but I haven’t ventured out much since I’ve been moving crap. I’m tired of unpacking crap.
Don't do that!
His only redeeming value is that a lot of fangirls find him attractive. Don’t spoil it for them! ;)
I wouldn't punch Counsell
You ever see Spiderman 3? Counsell is one of the villains.

The Bill E situation has inspired me
Ned Yost is absolutely dog-sh!t on the road, probably even worse than Bill E against righties. So why don’t we have a strict platoon where Ned is just left behind in Milwaukee and we call a manager up from the minors to handle the split?
Same Brewer fun, but with 50% less Yost.
by Getting Yosted on Jun 11, 2008 6:06 PM CDT reply actions 1 recs
Or the Hall at second situation could apply
Like Witrado said on the blog:
As I said yesterday, Hall will only see time at second base if he matches up well against a right-handed pitcher.
We only bring in Ned if he matches up well against a certain team. For example, whenever the Brewers play the Pawtucket Red Sox. Or Seattle Mariners. Or something like that.
Know who else sucked as a manager on the road (compared to how he did at home)?
Cap Anson. Guy had a .658 winning percentage at home but it dipped to .493 on the road.

Last time I looked, the Astros had two on and two out and the score was tied 1-1. I that was the bottom of the second. I gather that Branyan and Cameron homered to give the Brewers two more runs, and I saw the Hart homer. Lee hit a two-run shot in the third?

Also, I don’t know if you’ve read any of David Weber’s Honor Harrington books—but in hindsight, Janeway and Chakotay are a lot like Honor Harrington and Alistair McKeon (except far, far more annoying)
Now if that movie ever gets made, I am so there.
I hated DS9

Then, kind of out of nowhere, it became one of my favorite shows. Spike is airing them in syndication; they broadcast the series premiere last night.

It ended well, too
It’s as if they realized that Ezri Dax was their jump-the-shark moment, and they wrapped it up soon after that.
Not too long ago, I finished watching Voyager on Spike. It wasn’t a bad premise, but boy, did that end horribly. With the exception of the Doctor, none of the characters remained interesting. (Except for one good episode: they were stuck in the atmosphere of a planet with rapidly evolving cultures. That episode rocked. I think there was a legal battle because they stole the plot from someone a sci fi book.)
