Game Thread #67: Twins (32-35) at Brewers (35-31)
Last year, the Brewers split the season series against the Twins, and a repeat performance would be a-ok with me. As we discovered first hand against the Red Sox, some of these AL teams are pretty good, and while the Twins probably aren't headed to the World Series this year, they're not as bad as you might expect without Johan Santana.
The matchup tonight is between Dave Bush and Kevin Slowey. Both pitchers are coming off of disappointing outings; amazingly, Slowey's last start was considerably worse than Bush's.
Game time is 7:05 CT, and here's the BR Game Preview.
Go Brewers!

FYI
Cody Adams, our their second-round draft pick, a RHP out of SIU, signed today.
He's extremely quick and good.
Cody seems to be the name of the day

Our lineup
Includes C Hart leadoff
B Hall 2B
C Counsell SS and batting 2nd
Cameron is back in center (hitting 6th)
yeah...
i’m okay with it. I hope Kapler gets a pinch AB.
It’s at Miller Park, right? so, NL rules.

Tuning into the cubs blue jay game wait for the crew to start
Who knew Matt Stairs was not only still alive but batting second for the Jays? Not TheJay’s softball team either :)
He's been on one of my fantasy teams all year
Note: team is in a “gimmick” league, and my particular team is themed around players listed under 6’ tall.
Stairs is the power guy on my team—and apparently on the real Jays as well.
The pitching is dodgy. Most pitchers under 6’ appear to be lefty specialists. Yes, Shouse was on my team.
I'm in a gimmick league that starts on monday
All hitters are listed as Utility. All pitchers are just listed as pitchers. 15 stat categories for each. No conventional stats.
I’m pumped.

I saw that
one of the draftees from this year was described as “a Matt Stairs-like prospect” on the MLB site.

So I am strangely confident about Bush tonight
He groove way too many pitches but if there is a team you can get away with thatt it is the Twins. Also his cutter should come in handy against the lefties the Twins have.
Hey what do you know
2-0 Jays on a Matt Stair homer! Speak of the devil. Anyway on to the Brewer game.
Doesn't it seem like the Cubs are down ~3-1 almost every day?
Then Ramirez doubles, Soto homers, DeRosa doubles, etc, etc.
He's extremely quick and good.
Branyan has two sac bunts in his career
One was in 2005 for the Brewers. Anyone remember it?
He's extremely quick and good.
So I am with Bob and Jim
Bob said that ball went to the track. How did Fielder not make it? Bad jump or just not going fast?

Man Hall still has an OBP under .300
.289 right now. That is unaceptable especially if you are going to make as many errors as he has.
It took me awhile to process this, but his OBP really sucks because he hardly ever gets hit by pitches
Three this year already ties his career high, which was set last year; before that it was one (!). He has a bad walk rate, but not an abysmal one, but the lack of HBPs always makes his OBP lower than it seems like it should be.
He's extremely quick and good.
So I was looking through the traffic logs
We got a hit from someone searching Yahoo for “mat gamel jewish”. I love it.
He's extremely quick and good.
Minor league goings-on
Michael Brantley with another homer for Huntsville, and Wisconsin native RJ Seidel having his best start of the year for West Virginia.
He's extremely quick and good.

Slowey just doubled
Come on, Dave. That’s at least the second Twins SP to get a double for his first career hit in the first game he ever batted in; Liriano did it two years ago.
He's extremely quick and good.
err...
i don’t think it’s the first game he’s batted in this season
he’s hitting .200 and is 1 for 3 today. so he had 2 ABs elsewhere

Dillard in
the guy who was furiously warming up yesterday, but the guy warming up today isn’t. Someone help me understand, or does it take a Vulcan mind probe.
Jesus..
2 Hits / 2 RBIs for an AL pitcher?
Guess the lack of DH hurts more then an AL pitcher hacking so ar…
I hope so..
I’ll be at the game.. promptly tailgating at 3pm.
The only bright spot I can say, is that Slowly really helped my AL Fantasy team today. Good game for him.
For those of you that want some laughs
Go to the MLB gameday for the cubs game. Micheal Wuetz throwing right, and left, handed. That is the worst camera system in the league.
Bill Hall's contribution
negative 6 runs.
put Ibrarren in the next game at second please and DFA Hall.
any chance
he’s just trying to hose the team completely?
by PagsBrewCrew on Jun 13, 2008 9:14 PM CDT up reply actions
yeah if ever he was going to pitch well tonight was it
by dixieflatline on Jun 13, 2008 9:22 PM CDT up reply actions
How about a Dillard start?
He still has a sparkling 1.17 ERA
by keephopealive on Jun 13, 2008 9:27 PM CDT up reply actions
I like Dillard throwing 95 out of the pen just fine
His stuff has never been nearly this good.
He's extremely quick and good.
joking
I was being sarcastic about his giving up 5 unearned runs… but I agree with you

Branyan
his insane skills are going to waste on a team like the Brewers… it’s kind of like A-rod when he played for Texas… sort of, I mean…
Yost'd?
So I didnt get to watch any of the game, just checked the yahoo box score. Was this a “why the hell didnt Ned pull him sooner?” situation or just a complete milwaukee meltdown?

Lefty on the mound today for the Twins
With four left handed infielders right now someone is going to have to start against Perkins today. I had kind of thought that maybe today would be a good day to give Billy a day off but he probably will be in the lineup today. I’d vote Billy back at third Dillon at second and Counsell at short assuming J.J. Can’t play. That leaves Russ, our best bat recently, on the bench but he really can’t hit lefties and having him pinch hit later in the game might be more useful.
Sounds good..
Seems reasonable. It’s not Sunday so we won’t get the true Sunday line up. At least I hope.
I just hope the bats wake up again vs. a delicious leftie. Hall better have a good start to the game or the Boo birds will be out in force. Silly Bill hurting the value of my signed bobble and bat. :(
LaRussa ejection last night
The clip here on the Cards site is 4:23. I guess on TV you could see him stomp on his sunglasses. Seems poorly handled by the umps.
UMPs
yeah I agree. Pretty poorly handled, especially with the Phillies throwing behind Schumaker. (I think it was Schumaker).
Tony isn’t above throwing at people, but I don’t know if he was that time. Anyone know the history of LaRussa and that umpire crew?
