Game Thread #67: Twins (32-35) at Brewers (35-31)
Last year, the Brewers split the season series against the Twins, and a repeat performance would be a-ok with me. As we discovered first hand against the Red Sox, some of these AL teams are pretty good, and while the Twins probably aren't headed to the World Series this year, they're not as bad as you might expect without Johan Santana.
The matchup tonight is between Dave Bush and Kevin Slowey. Both pitchers are coming off of disappointing outings; amazingly, Slowey's last start was considerably worse than Bush's.
Game time is 7:05 CT, and here's the BR Game Preview.
Go Brewers!

FYI
Cody Adams, our their second-round draft pick, a RHP out of SIU, signed today.
He's extremely quick and good.

Cody seems to be the name of the day

Tuning into the cubs blue jay game wait for the crew to start
Who knew Matt Stairs was not only still alive but batting second for the Jays? Not TheJay’s softball team either :)
by dixieflatline on Jun 13, 2008 6:31 PM CDT 0 recs
He's been on one of my fantasy teams all year
Note: team is in a “gimmick” league, and my particular team is themed around players listed under 6’ tall.
Stairs is the power guy on my team—and apparently on the real Jays as well.
The pitching is dodgy. Most pitchers under 6’ appear to be lefty specialists. Yes, Shouse was on my team.

I'm in a gimmick league that starts on monday
All hitters are listed as Utility. All pitchers are just listed as pitchers. 15 stat categories for each. No conventional stats.
I’m pumped.

one of the draftees from this year was described as “a Matt Stairs-like prospect” on the MLB site.

He’ll be fine, of course.

So I am strangely confident about Bush tonight
He groove way too many pitches but if there is a team you can get away with thatt it is the Twins. Also his cutter should come in handy against the lefties the Twins have.

And the funny thing is that Russell one handed it as he tried to hold up his swing and it goes to the warning track. Others, such as Counsell sometimes rip one and I’m thinking it could be his first homer and then the second baseman backs up a few steps and catches it.

Man Hall still has an OBP under .300
.289 right now. That is unaceptable especially if you are going to make as many errors as he has.
by dixieflatline on Jun 13, 2008 7:49 PM CDT 0 recs
It took me awhile to process this, but his OBP really sucks because he hardly ever gets hit by pitches
Three this year already ties his career high, which was set last year; before that it was one (!). He has a bad walk rate, but not an abysmal one, but the lack of HBPs always makes his OBP lower than it seems like it should be.
He's extremely quick and good.

Come on, Dave. That’s at least the second Twins SP to get a double for his first career hit in the first game he ever batted in; Liriano did it two years ago.
