yep

dropped 2 to a triple A team

by Braunstalker on Jun 14, 2008 9:52 PM CDT   0 recs

beat by things like good bunting and pitchers hitting

by ol Pete on Jun 14, 2008 9:55 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

I was really excited coming into this series too

Cubs on the road against a good team in the Jays with their good pitchers going. Phillies playing at the Cards without Pujols. Seemed like we could pick up some ground. Now we have to avoid being swept.

There's no crying in baseball.

Is there a possiblity of a panic trade for a middle infielder in the next few days? I hope not.

by Ted Simmons Speed Camp on Jun 14, 2008 9:55 PM CDT   0 recs

I don't think so

There is the possibility of a panic call up though.

Panic callup

might be a solid idea. I wanted to punch myself in the face when I saw the fearsome threesome of Counsell, Kendall, and Irabarren due up in the ninth.

Did Guillermo Mota and Tim Dillard die?

What the hell just happened? I think I’m still in shock here.

by jihad on Jun 14, 2008 9:57 PM CDT   0 recs

I have no idea

I told my wife after the 11th that there was no way Tavarez comes out for the 12th.

Jayson Stark's ESPN column

This one, did it ever get linked to and talked about?

by ol Pete on Jun 14, 2008 9:59 PM CDT   0 recs

Tough Loss

I can’t really blame Yost though, our defense blew this one.

So Battlekow

How many games until the end of the first half for Huntsville? 2-1 them in the 8th right now.

Gamel 3 for 4 and LaPorta has a dinger.

It sure would be nice to see that team make the playoffs.

I take it back

Looks like the game is over. Rain maybe? I guess in Jacksonville that makes sense.

No, the scores stopped updating awhile ago

The box score totals are still good though.

He's extremely quick and good.

by battlekow on Jun 14, 2008 10:06 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

They won, actually

The last game is tomorrow. Last I checked, West Tenn was winning today also; they are tied with Huntsville.

He's extremely quick and good.

by battlekow on Jun 14, 2008 10:02 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Yeah 4-1 west tenn

Seattle affiliate. They must be filled with some older players.

by dixieflatline on Jun 14, 2008 10:04 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Nothing but the boxscores are updating

That’s why it looks like it’s still the eighth inning for Huntsville. West Tenn is winning 7-2 after the seventh, so they’re probably going to get a win also. FYI, if they are still tied after tomorrow, the winner of the first game in the second half wins the first-half championship, and West Tenn plays at Huntsville to open the second half.

He's extremely quick and good.

by battlekow on Jun 14, 2008 10:05 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

What I meant to say was, the winner of the first head-to-head matchup wins the title

It just happens that they’re playing each other in the first series.

He's extremely quick and good.

by battlekow on Jun 14, 2008 10:07 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Yay Huntsville!

I may just convert to becoming a full time Stars fan and just check the Brewers box after their game on occasion.

by jihad on Jun 14, 2008 10:05 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

It really is a game of inches

If that ball doesn’t get by Corey we probably win as well. Though we also escaped a huge jam in the 11th.

So I have been hard on Bill Hall recently

For obvious reasons but I want to talk about another regular. Is Mike Cameron done? He only has 148 ABs but his line is .216 /.289 /.446. Normally large strikeout totals don’t get me upset but 52 in 148 is a ton. Is it time for Kapler to get some serious playing time?

.230 ISO is nice at least

He's extremely quick and good.

by battlekow on Jun 14, 2008 10:10 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

True

It really is amazing looking at our stats. Braun’s OPS is .888 which isn’t bad but if you told me .888 OPS would be leading the team (of qualified players) before the season I would have been pretty surprised. Also Cory’s OBP is down to .331. As bad as Rickie has been his OBP is .325 so he probably should go back into the leadoff spot when he comes back.

by dixieflatline on Jun 14, 2008 10:13 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

LD % Identical to last year

but his BABIP is about 50 points lower, so I’d expect him to improve.

by jihad on Jun 14, 2008 10:14 PM CDT to parent up   1 recs

Now that I really look at it

Our team OBP is really pretty poor. Here is a list of the regulars (League average is .331 remember):

Rickie .325
J.J. .323
Cory .331
Braun .321
Prince .377 (!)
Hall .283
Kendall .323
Cameron .289

So our only regular with an OBP above league average is Prince. That is pretty poor.

Visit my baseball blog ...or else!

by dixieflatline on Jun 14, 2008 10:18 PM CDT   0 recs

That's it.

Put Prince in the leadoff spot. After all, as Ned said about Cory, the only time he’ll come to the plate without men on base is the 1st inning.

by Ted Simmons Speed Camp on Jun 14, 2008 10:19 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Well I didn't suggest that

But the point is there really are no good options at all for 1st or 2nd in the order. With Braun and Fielder 3rd and 4th if we just could get some guys on base with them coming up we would score a lot more runs. Someone is going to have to fill those spots and do a better job. I really think Rickie is the best choice for one of them.

Visit my baseball blog ...or else!

by dixieflatline on Jun 14, 2008 10:23 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

I do too, because he actually has on-base skills

If he could just hit .250…

He's extremely quick and good.

by battlekow on Jun 14, 2008 10:24 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

How can he not?

Seriously. What am I missing? Because I never thought Weeks would still be struggling at the plate this far into his career.

by Ted Simmons Speed Camp on Jun 14, 2008 10:26 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Maybe he'll be BJ Surhoff:

and be maddeningly awful when it counts for most of his career in Milwaukee and then play well elsewhere.

by Ted Simmons Speed Camp on Jun 14, 2008 10:29 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Yeah he was advertised as a hitting machine

I saw him extensively after he was drafted and later at AAA and he looked great at the plate. Driving the ball to all fields and really squaring up everything. I wonder if that wrist might still be the problem. Maybe that just won’t ever heal. His swing is so hands-y that and he relies some much on those wrists.

Sorry it is hard sometimes to tell on the interweb

Again, as Jeff points out how lineups are constructed doesn’t make a huge difference. And with our team’s OBP all sitting in the low .300’s it really doesn’t matter much right now.

by dixieflatline on Jun 14, 2008 10:27 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Did anyone see Ned's post-game press conference?

I’m really curious to see if he was saving Mota for the next inning.

by jihad on Jun 14, 2008 10:20 PM CDT   0 recs

One last note on Billy

His BABIP is down from his usual low .300’s to .255 but there appears to be a good reason for that. His GB% is way up to 46% compares to mid 30’s the last two years and his pop up rate is an alarming 21%. You can’t make it in the bigs with a pop up rate that high.

Is 2010 our year?

I thought 2007 was. Then I hoped ths year would be. 2009 seems unlikely to me based on the SP I’m projecting in my head.

Hello from the future

It will happen in the Fourth Year Of Our Lord Branyan.

The problem is in 2010 the Reds might be good

The pirates appear to have seen the light as well. I have no doubt we will still be a good team then but you wonder how long this window might be open for?

Maybe everyone will go 81-81

I don’t think there’s a procedure for a six-way tie. I think it only goes up to four, but I suppose you could have three one-game playoffs and then use the three-way tie procedure.

More on Weeks

His BABIP is obscenely low as well at .234. His LD% is down but his pop up rate has not jumped. You would think that is a lot of bad luck but his BABIP was low last year as well. Not sure what is going on with him or the rest of the team really. We should be a much better team offensively than we are.

Question

Does anyone know if there is a database of Brewers Franchise player win shares available online? I was considering calculating out such a list as something interesting to do, but if one already exists it would seem more pointless.
