Game Thread #69: Twins (34-35) at Brewers (35-33)
The matchup is Scott Baker vs. Seth McClung. McClung started a couple of games against the Twins, one in 2005 (that time he was respectable) and the other in 2003 (when he wasn't). We faced Baker twice last year, and seem to have figured him out by the second time. Maybe our returning hitters have a long memory.
Game time is 1:05 CT, and here's the BR Game Preview.
Go Brewers!

This is interesting
Apparently at the New York Post the Brewers are getting some publicity.
He writes that the Brewers may be interested in C.C. and that they may also consider trading Prince in the future. These two scenarios seem to contradict each other, but it’s still fun to think about.
Anyone have a feeling on the worth of Prince? I would think it would be pretty high considering he’s only entering his arbitration years.
you have two 'http's in there
Try this one.
I thought this comment by Melvin was interesting: It’s not something I am exploring. But I never rule out anything. The day I traded Carlos Lee, I went to work with no plans whatsoever to do it, and by midnight he was a Texas Ranger.
who is this Yostg guy?
http://blogs.jsonline.com/brewers/archive/2008/06/14/why-yost-left-tavarez-in-the-game.aspx
“He was the last guy I was going to use,” said Yostg. “I felt like he could use one more day off.
Go Brewers! No Mercy, McClung!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
go get em' seth!
Iribarren is starting at 2B
Apparently his first name is pronounced “air-non”
He's extremely quick and good.
Stupid Brewers.

I recommend McClung as a double starter this week in my fantasy column
Going out on a bit of a limb there. Seth, please don’t make it hurt too much.
He's extremely quick and good.
So our entire infield throws right and bats left
Guys like that are not too common. I wonder when the last time a team fielded an infield like that?
I don't know for sure if this is most recent
But on 5/25/03, the Padres started Dave Hansen at first, Keith Lockhart at second, Ramon Vazquez at short, and Sean Burroughs at third against the Diamondbacks.
Guys that bat right and throw left are even rarer.

First check the game “preview” or the regular gameday. Copy the “game id” which is the date and the teams plus the underscores and the 1. Then use this url, which I have a link to, and paste it on the end.
My stepmom used to teach out there
She could never figure out what exactly was the difference between Norway and Wind Lake.

McClung quickly becoming a viable starter
Of all the surprises this year McClung has to be the most positive one. Honestly I never thought he had it in him and I still don’t exactly know how he is getting it done. I keep waiting for him to implode but he never seems to.
"mechanical fixes"
This may be one instance where that line isn’t bullshit.
If the wheels don’t fall off I feel pretty good about a Gallardo – Parra – McClung – Soup – Someone rotation for next year. Sheets – Gallardo – Parra – McClung – Soup would be ideal, of course.
Now if only we can make Villanueva eat his wheaties and be able to pitch in the rotation as he can in relief.
What?
Gabe Kapler doesn’t deliver every time up?

Another thing it does, at least on my system, is show the strike 3 pitch. In 2008, it flashes ‘strikeout’ and moves to the next batter. If I want to know what the location was, I have to fool with it.
Love that curveball
and love seeing Carlos Gomez look like a fool, instead of him making us look rediculous by beating out a bunt single
agreed
My mother was yelling about that. apparently it is “like making Prince bunt—what’s the point?”
McClung knows how to hit that ball out of the infield, but bunting is not in his skill set at this time.
"My mother was yelling about that."
You really should consider blogging.
He's extremely quick and good.
do we need the baseball equivalent of Old Grandma Hardcore?
My mother is in her 60s, and I spend my weekends with her doing…well, mostly watching the Brewers and taking her grocery shopping.
My actual grandmother, this year, has done a bit of commentary on the Rockies’ pitching mechanics (lack of leg lift, apparently) and some embarrassing ogling of Josh Hamilton. My 81-year-old grandmother. .....
You heard her

Dick and Bert are still talking about all his walks with TB
After five innings of, um, McClung not walking anyone.
I would like to see...
Corey Hart throw someone out at first who rounded the bag too far on a single, a la Glenn Wilson.

he went 85 in the last one
and theoretically they’re trying to stretch him out to 100, right?
however, he’s got his nervous habits going (the twisting of the ball, and the deep breathing—haven’t seen the tugging at his jersey yet) so he’s showing all the signs of being done.
Off to the Kiltie for lunch
we better be winning when I get back!

Kendall
First time he’s gotten two singles in a game since May 12. His two other multi-hit games in that stretch both had doubles involved.

McClung out
Shouse probably in. I knew he was done, but not due to last minute offensive replacement.
Plus three of the next four up for Minn are lefties
Which means Shouse will likely face Cuddyer.

Orioles coming to town
Here is a recent trade idea at an Orioles forum: First… put together a package of Roberts, Sherrill, etc. to Milwaukee for A. Escobar, Weeks, and Gamel.
I’d end up getting arrested at their offices for hollerin’ and raising a ruckus if they did something that daft.
Weird situation there with Harris
I wonder what that was all about.

Alright Mota!

Mota = nasty
every time i’ve seen him this season he’s been dealing… i should watch more often
he really uses his high 90’s heat effectively, setting it up with those breaking balls
I'll warm up with you anytime
gonna be an interesting day to watch
see how he does today
