Professional scout's ranking of Huntsville's hitters
A little surprising:
1. Escobar
2. Gamel
3. Brantley
4. LaPorta
5. Salome
6. Gillespie

Interesting Rankings
I was a little surprised to see the scout referring to Escobar as projecting to be an above average hitter, I guess I’ve always seen him becoming an average hitter with plus defense.
Also, nice to hear the Brantley has been that impressive. Sure looks like he could earn that CF/leadoff hitter of the future tag if he keeps it up. When the time comes for Fielder to be traded for some top-level pitching prospects, I’ll take the Braun-Brantley-Hart OF with LaPorta at 1st.
"He's been very, very impressive," Yost said. "I mean really impressive. I mean really, really impressive."

I agree
I was surprised to see Escobar so high and Laporta so low. I thought that this particular scout put extra weight on defense, but the comments on Escobar’s bat surprised me.
If Escobar is that good we should pray that Hardy has a good second half and we can trade him. Or maybe Weeks will tease us again with a nice second half. In any case, with our scouting, I guess we will have to adjust to the Oakland A’s approach. After so much anticipation of hot prospects reaching the bigs, it’s a mental adjustment to let go and focus on the new batch.

Looks like a more appropriate thread
to bring my “LaPorta to left or right?” query to…the scout’s evaluation touches upon one reason I was asking to begin with:
He projects LaPorta as a major league left fielder because of average arm strength.
Just seems to me that Braun might be better suited to right field among the two; whatever his failings at third involved, he did have the throwing arm to get the ball over quickly.
And yeah, those comments on Brantley are mighty encouraging…I sure hope the last half-season doesn’t turn out to be a fluke.
