Game Thread #70: Blue Jays (35-36) at Brewers (36-33)

These Blue Jays can pitch.  Dustin McGowan is the guy Doug Melvin really wanted instead of Zach Jackson (and rightfully so), and he's really coming into his own at age 25.  Manny Parra ain't so bad, either.

Game time is 7:05 CT, and here's the BR Game Preview.

Go Brewers!

Another Counsell/Dillon leadoff night

It’s like Ned saw what happened to Randolph and decided to double down.

I know stupid movies all too well.

Casino Dealer: 17.
Number Two: Hit me.
Casino Dealer: You have 17, sir.
Number Two: I like to live dangerously.
Casino Dealer: [Hit for four] :21. Very good, sir.
[to Austin]
Casino Dealer: :5.
Austin Powers: I’ll stay.
Casino Dealer: I suggest you hit, sir.
Austin Powers: I also like to live dangerously.
Casino Dealer: 20 beat your 5 sir. I’m sorry, sir.
Austin Powers: Well I must admit, cards aren’t my bag, baby.

Also, cheese.

Mench!

In the lineup, batting fifth for the Blue Jays. Overbay is seventh – hopefully Uecker doesn’t screw up and call him Obermueller like he would when both those guys were on the Brewers. Too bad Hart’s not leading off or both teams would have really tall #1 hitters.

too bad hart's not leading off...

...or we’d have a good leadoff hitter!

Also, cheese.

Grit

is the only stat that matters among leadoff hitters. Hart hits too many home runs to have a high GRIT%.

I get emotional when Counsell's in the game

Oh. No, my mistake. That’s just a little grit in my eye.

by Marty McSuperFly on Jun 17, 2008 7:06 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Counsell's batting stance

is meant to trick predators into thinking he’s taller than he really is.

and the Sally League ASG

with Jon Lucroy and Lee Haydel in the South Division starting lineup, and Zelous Wheeler in at SS since the 3rd inning.

by Zeyes on Jun 17, 2008 7:11 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

And when I say "South"...

I mean “North”, of course. D’oh. Anyway, Lucroy taken out after 3 innings, looks like they’re going to try to get most of their sizeable ASG rosters (27 per team on the original list) into the game.

I didn’t realize this until now, but the West Tennessee pitcher is Ryan Ketchner who is almost totally deaf (hearing aids let him hear muffled sounds and vibrations). Kind of cool, even though I hope Huntsville beats him. :)
