Game Thread #58: D-Backs (32-25) at Brewers (29-28)
It's Doug Davis and Jeff Suppan. Davis has been good in limited action this year except for a rough start last time out; Suppan has strung together some pretty nice outings of late.
Here's the BR Game Preview, and game time is 7:05 CT.
Go Brewers!

Diamondbacks LF
Arizona’s had trouble in LF this season, huh? Chris Burke is starting there tonight and hitting .164/.267/.205. $10 million man Eric Byrnes has had his issues, too, but he’s had recurring hamstring problems.

FSN Arizona
still keeping my fingers crossed that Extra Innings has the Arizona feed tonight. I am in the mood for a night of Daron and I would love to hear his take on this year’s Crew.
They need to score some runs
Or so I hear. :)

Unrelated question
I’m trying to convince my roommate that fewer runs are being scored in MLB this year than last. I think I’ve heard that explained on this site… can someone point me to a stat or two?
(PS Jenkins just hit a nice double for the Phillies. Runs scored don’t seem to be down in Philly this year.)
Last week I went to Philadelphia, but it was closed.
Phils
I was just watching that game and listening to the announcers discuss Jenks’ leg raise before the pitch
Back to back HRs
Phils are scary right now.

You could look at the cumulative numbers for leagues year to year
Here’s the NL page at Baseball-Reference.com and here’s the AL page. The NL is down 0.12 runs per game and the AL is down 0.50 runs per game.

Thanks Jay

doug davis
i like him, he seems like a nice guy, but i do not miss watching him pitch.
I always thought a Doug Davis-Steve Trachsel matchup would be great
Awesome fodder for the “baseball is boring” crowd.

Prince
Nice steal of third there.
That’s something I didn’t foresee writing before the season.

Hardy
Almost got run over after Prince crossed the plate.

It's nice to know
They’re not all couch potatoes.
Think Yost is trying too hard to defend against nothing at the moment?

They've got Trenni
Do they need to talk about anything else?

I wonder how hard he'd have to hit it
To score Suppan from second.

Braun would probably retort with a DVD of all his HR's

if only he could swap bases with braun
then steal third again.
Also, cheese.

Alright
The Diamondbacks had their cheap, dink-and-dunk inning, now we’re a Corey bloop away from tying it up.

juan cruz sighting
evidently he’s still in the league
On the bright side
Actually got runners on base that inning.

can't strand runners
if you don’t get ‘em on.
that’s my motto.

I'm listening, not watching
but this sounds like lower quality baseball than the D3 world series I went to last week.
go defense!
Also, cheese.
branyan's on the bench...

Shucks
I’ll take the gift of a tie game, though.

And I was really craving
a grand slam!
At least we tied it up though

I suppose after the gift runs its tough to complain
but that won’t stop me :)

Good, quick inning by Mota
I wouldn’t mind Salomon Torres having a reason to work next inning.

Wow
Doug Slaten certainly wasn’t brought in for that.

If we could get Hart or Braun hitting on all cylinders on the same night Prince is hitting!

imagine...
if we win a game, and the cubs lose on the same night!

I'm super cereal you guys
Hall is going to finish the year averaging more errors per game than Ryan Braun did in 2007.
The average is in effect due to Braun not playing a full season and Hall missing games due to presence of a (possibly) better option.
time to revisit the Hart-at-3b experiment
and bring up laporta!
:)

I am excited to see Gamel in the Majors
Though since my issue currently is defense, he would not be the best option right now, though maybe next year. I was alluding to Branyan, originally. We’ll see about 2009.
Though I do kinda like the sound of moving Hardy and putting in Escobar. I think that it might be a tad bit of a bad idea to have Hardy learn a new position in the middle of the season, however (albeit, still in the infield.)
super cereal?
I’m guessing you must be kellogs lowfat granola w/o raisins. delicious.
it definitely was
and I have no problem with that
Can't pitch Gagne in rain. He’s like the B-2 bomber of baseball.--TheJay
whew
a little too exciting there, but i’ll take it.
Whew!
That ending was a bit too stressful, but I’ll take it.
Obscure baseball records and more at my blog, Recondite Baseball.
I would like to officially appoint
Torres closer.
You know, until he starts sucking or something.
Also, cheese.
Probably foolishly, I still have hope for Gagne
but I can’t see him staying as cool and resilient as Torres was there.
2 points
1) Even with that 9th, I still don’t miss the Gagne era
2) Even with that 9th, it was a quick game. We have had a lot of those lately
Nice
I did the same “hop” (off of my couch) that Torres did after the ump pulled the trigger on that last pitch.
Stay off the streets Jeff
Perez for the Mets gave up 6 runs and only lasted one out. Against the Giants. Ouch.
