Game Thread #58: D-Backs (32-25) at Brewers (29-28)

It's Doug Davis and Jeff Suppan.  Davis has been good in limited action this year except for a rough start last time out; Suppan has strung together some pretty nice outings of late.

Here's the BR Game Preview, and game time is 7:05 CT.

Go Brewers!

Diamondbacks LF

Arizona’s had trouble in LF this season, huh? Chris Burke is starting there tonight and hitting .164/.267/.205. $10 million man Eric Byrnes has had his issues, too, but he’s had recurring hamstring problems.

FSN Arizona

still keeping my fingers crossed that Extra Innings has the Arizona feed tonight. I am in the mood for a night of Daron and I would love to hear his take on this year’s Crew.

They need to score some runs

Or so I hear. :)

Unrelated question

I’m trying to convince my roommate that fewer runs are being scored in MLB this year than last. I think I’ve heard that explained on this site… can someone point me to a stat or two?

(PS Jenkins just hit a nice double for the Phillies. Runs scored don’t seem to be down in Philly this year.)

You could look at the cumulative numbers for leagues year to year

Here’s the NL page at Baseball-Reference.com and here’s the AL page. The NL is down 0.12 runs per game and the AL is down 0.50 runs per game.

I'm super cereal you guys

Hall is going to finish the year averaging more errors per game than Ryan Braun did in 2007.
The average is in effect due to Braun not playing a full season and Hall missing games due to presence of a (possibly) better option.

so then what?

Gamel? Move Hardy and stick Escobar at SS?

by warwick5s on Jun 2, 2008 9:45 PM CDT up reply actions

I am excited to see Gamel in the Majors

Though since my issue currently is defense, he would not be the best option right now, though maybe next year. I was alluding to Branyan, originally. We’ll see about 2009.

Though I do kinda like the sound of moving Hardy and putting in Escobar. I think that it might be a tad bit of a bad idea to have Hardy learn a new position in the middle of the season, however (albeit, still in the infield.)
