No Branyan?!

Anyone ever been to one of these? What’s it like?

by John Brew on Jun 20, 2008 9:54 AM CDT   0 recs

I went to one last year. Mostly a bunch of people standing in a line waiting for free autographs. Players spend a small amount of time on a small stage and answer audience questions.

Completely shocked to learn that there are duplicate sausages as one set was appearing in a parade while another was at the block party.

Personnel

Someone done gone and screwed up the alphabetized order.

Ha

I can picture you sitting there, reading post, and saying “heyyyy….the alphabetical order is all wrong!”

BOO.....

I grew up two blocks from Alcott Park. I sure don’t remember any Brewers cruising through there when I was a kid. Although if i remember Jaime Navaro used to roll through the neighborhood in a pretty sweet green Mercedes.

With Kendall & Bush coming to my old stomping grounds, I can say with certainty that I grew up in a very, very gritty neighborhood. (Before this it most certainly is not gritty.)

Try to get in good with Ben Sheets

See if you can get in a fantasy football league with him.

So...

even though Dillard isn’t on the MLB squad, he’ll be there?

by PagsBrewCrew on Jun 20, 2008 11:46 AM CDT   0 recs

He’ll be there cooking out with his family playing baseball with his kids. Unfortunately, he’ll walk all of them.

Ryan Braun is in big trouble

He never showed for his chat on Friday. We spent 45 minutes after it was supposed to start waiting for him to show, only to be told that he wasn’t coming at all.

Did anyone end up going? How was it?

I went to Alcott Park

It was as Pete described above. Nice sunny day in the park, lots of kids and Brewers fans. Games and stuff for kids, but mainly lines for autographs.

Lots of helpful Brewers staff around - when we arrived a lady made sure we knew what all was going on. We got in line for Bush - the lines for Sheets and Kendall were already really long. Bush was friendly, chuckled at my daughter.

Worth it to bring kids. If you’re really wanting a specific autograph you’d want to be pretty early.

by John Brew on Jun 23, 2008 9:07 AM CDT to parent up   0 recs

This is the new BCB

You can’t say things like “We got in line for Bush” and “Bush was friendly.”

by roguejim on Jun 23, 2008 9:10 AM CDT to parent up   0 recs

I'll try again...

A helpful Brewers lady directed me to the Bush line, which was surprisingly short.

by John Brew on Jun 23, 2008 9:26 AM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Actually, that's not that much better

I would eliminate “Bush line” altogether. :)

Last try

I asked a Brewers staffer, “where’s Bush?”. With a smile she pointed me towards a tent by the kiddie pool. :-)

by John Brew on Jun 23, 2008 10:33 AM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Hell, you're not even trying

Nice job with the kiddie pool. Maybe you’ll be Laynce’s cell mate. :)

I went to Sherman Park

I got up a little late (stupid drinking) and figured that Sheets already had a pretty good line. I got to the park around 10ish figuring like last year there was going to be a pretty big line. Boy was I wrong, until around 11ish there were probably at most 20 people there. So few people, instead of having one line per player, they had one line per group of players.

Around 11:15ish the players showed up, had a very quick QnA. The normal jazz, nothing ground breaking besides Cameron saying he was coming back in a few days. Ed Sedar said Weeks turn around in the infield was due to good coaching, it was pretty funny. Around then I’d say.. at most 100 people were there. Both lines moved really fast in under 40ish minutes I was able to get through both lines.

Quick QnA

Joe Dillon – No I couldn’t see if he blinked or had crazy meth eyes. He had sunglasses on the entire time. His kids were there in #27 camo shirts.

Cameron – He seemed very nice, he seemed to really spend extra time with Kids.

Billy Hall – For all those Yahoo fantasy players who drafted Hall before the season. I asked him to try to get a few more starts at 2nd to get 2nd base eligibility, he laughed and said he’d try.

Shouse – He seems really short.

Sorry no pictures of Ed Sedar apparently. Sorry Ed.

Davey Nelson was hanging around the park.

They gave away a bunch of game used stuff. Miller Jersey, Stetter, a few others. Seemed everyone who just showed up for free food won that stuff. Kind of made me sad faced.

I think the crowd size was pretty disappointing, but that might have been due to the Alcott park players vs. the Sherman Park players (Plus they really didn’t do to much advertising)

Featured Poll

Poll
Who is the Brewers' top prospect?
  • Brett Lawrie - Cana-DUH!
  • Mat Gamel - A great pure hitter who could potentially play a position of need.
  • Alcides Escobar - The Brewers sorely need his defensive wizardry and contact-hitting approach. He also solves the 3B hole by shifting J.J. over.
  • Jonathan Lucroy - The best catching prospect in the system by virtue of the fact that he can actually catch. His hitting numbers at Brevard are very good on the face of it, but even better after accounting for Space Coast Stadium.
  • Angel Salome - He's leading a Huntsville team that's loaded with prospects in all three slash stats, and he has the tools to be a good defensive catcher.
  • Jeremy Jeffress - The only real pitching prospect in a sea of hitters, Jeffress could potentially ease the pain of losing two aces by blossoming into one himself.
  • Carlos George - Hey, Derek Jeter can't play defense either.
