Exiting Rumorville: Ben Sheets
Per Jayson Stark at espin:
Here's another name to scratch off your rumor list: Ben Sheets. In case nobody noticed, the Brewers are only three games out in the wild-card race. And GM Doug Melvin is telling clubs the Brewers would have to collapse to the point where they're "way out of it" before he'd even think about moving Sheets. So if he pops out on the market at all, it won't be until the last minute before the trading deadline.
I guess this isn't much of a surprise --- and it's just as well. As much fun as it'd be to speculate on what we would get in return, I'd rather keep Sheets if it means we're still contending come August. (Really, we're not THAT far removed from playing absolutely meaningless games in August.) Besides, that's why God created extra draft picks.

They just need to send this around to everyone who is going to suggest that Sheets is available.
Coffee is for closers
The Brewers don't suck
the Cubs are just way to good, at least that’s what it sounds like around the major sports websites today. Got bored this morning and took a stroll around si.com, espn.com, yahoo.com, etc. I was irritated by the number of cub-centric stories out there. It was rather ironic timing seeing as very little was mentioned of the Brewers as a real threat, especially in light of the Crews recent success, the fact that they are due to get several players back from injury in the upcoming weeks, the Cubs seem to be headed in the opposite direction injury-wise, and the Cubs haven’t been able to keep up the scorching-hot pace that they set not too long ago.
I wish I could say that this is something that surprised me, but in reality it is something I’ve come to expect from the national media. Oh well, all I know is that this year reminds me more and more of last year with every passing day, and I hope the Cubs have forgotten how that turned out.
"He's been very, very impressive," Yost said. "I mean really impressive. I mean really, really impressive."
What I find curious
is if Zambrano goes on the DL the Cubs need to acquire a pitcher if they want to make the playoffs, but the Brewers can probably stand pat and make the playoffs. But the Cubs are running away with the division?
One thing I never see mentioned is that the Brewers can beat any prospect package the Cubs put together, and might be of the mind to acquire a guy just to keep him away from the Cubs. Only with Bedard can the Cubs beat the Brewers, and only if the Mariners dump salary and require the trade partner to take some of their dead weight contracts.
CC is better than Bedard
Bedard has lost some mph’s on his fastball since leaving the O’s and he has had hip problems this year.
I would also say that Harden is better than Bedard but the Cubs don’t have the prospects that Billy Beane would trade for.
that was crazy
the funny thing was he was talking about the Yankees definitely making the playoffs and acting like the Crew had no chance. I guess he doesn’t like reading the standings.
Kurkijan is baseball's equivalent
of John Clayton, who covers the NFL. Both just like to hear themselves talk. Neither has anything of substance to offer in their respective sports.
Sheets to the Cubs? In the immortal words of Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler, “Dream On!”
CC
Per mlbtraderumors:
1. Sheets isn’t available (which i think we all already knew)
2. Buster Olney ranks the favorites for CC Sabathia’s destination IN THIS ORDER:
1. Brewers
2. Cubs
3. Dodgers
4. Rangers
5. Red Sox
i wonder what it would take to get CC, too bad he’s a free agent after this year
