Game Thread #75: Orioles (38-35) at Brewers (40-34)
No Mug today as I couldn't find much of interest on the interwebs. Post-game links from last night's game:
This afternoon it's Garrett Olson and his 4.80 ERA against Manny Parra and his 4.22 ERA. As you might've noticed, Parra has been excellent lately, going 5-0 with a 3.00 ERA in his last seven starts. His last outing was his best yet: seven shutout innings against the Jays.
Game time is 1:05 CT, and here's the BR Game Preview. The slate is about as clean as you could ask for: No Brewers or Orioles batter has faced the opposing starter today.
Go Brewers!

I was going to post this in the mug but since there isn't one I'll post it here
Continuing my man-crush on Zach Greinke here is what he has to say about domes.
Zack Greinke should feel right at home at Rogers Centre at Toronto. “I like all domes,” he said. “The weather is always good and I think that’s why [I like them], because you can always have batting practice and it’s not real hot or real cold and it’s just nice.“You don’t have to worry about the wind blowing straight out one game or all the different things that can happen with it. You just know what it’s going to be like, and that’s how it is.”
Make a deal Doug, make a deal.
by dixieflatline on Jun 22, 2008 10:40 AM CDT 0 recs
you just know that
if a deal was made, fall would be unseasonably warm, and every Greinke start for two months would have the roof open.
Also, cheese.

I don't know but I am just enamored with him
I am probably going to write up a profile on him for my next THT article. Looking in depth on his player card shows an average fastball of 94 MPH with good horizontal movement and even better vertical movement. That is a plus plus pitch. His change is a ridiculous 12 MPH slower than his fastball which is crazy good. His slider has merely average movement but has a 9 MPH speed differential and his curve while not getting huge vertical drop still has an above average differential compared to his fastball and has a very small hump. His control is good walking less than the league average and he is getting more grounders this year and lowered his P/PA to 3.71. Oh and he is also hiding all of his pitches well with almost no difference in release point.
Honestly, I think he is an elite pitcher right now who is 24 and possibly has room to get better. I would trade LaPorta and a fringe prospect of the Royals choosing for him. He is a free agent after 2010 and will make some bucks in arbitration but that seems to fit into the Brewer’s window quite well.

Wow
That’s a lot of good info on him.
BTW, Rotoworld has Greinke as a free agent in 2011. They could be wrong.

Is that after 2011 or after 2010?
In any case he should command more than Sabathia if both were to be traded.

Cot's has his service time as
3 years and 57 days entering the season, so he’ll be a free agent after 2010.

I’m guessing it means he’s a free agent after 2010, which is what you wrote the first time…misread your original post :).

Fun fact
Look over to “related stories on Brew Crew Ball” on the right sidebar. Those are related because they are Parra’s last starts, and I tag all the game threads with the starters names. Brewers record going into each of Parra’s last five starts:
23-26
26-28
31-28
33-31
36-33
Nice.
Also, cheese.

my dumb-ass thought you were talking about the Stories from around SBN, particularily ” Colon Squeezes Out O’s for 150th”

Another lefty for us to hammer
Olson looks like just our kind of pitcher. Fastball near 90 MPH with OK movement, straight change that he hides well but has just 8 MPH difference from his fastball, and a slider that has some decent bite to it. He doesn’t have that junkballer big curve or change the drops off the table that has given us trouble in the past so I expect a good performance by the offense today. He throws a lot of first pitch fastballs so I wouldn’t be too surprised to see some of our guys (read Braun) swinging away early.

leftys don't seem as sure a thing this year
Sounds like a control pitcher who keeps the ball down.

Looks like the bats will need to score some this game
I am confident they can but it would have been nice to limit this to one run.

So how much longer do you stick with Manny?
If this keeps up I think maybe pinch hitting for him next inning is the way to go. If he even gets that far.
by dixieflatline on Jun 22, 2008 1:56 PM CDT 0 recs
Maybe they can get a couple more innings out of him. I wondered how long DiFelice would be around but he seems to be valuable lately.

Ned didn’t bring Hall up with a runner on third and the O’s shouldn’t have scored the second run. I was so mad about that and Manny’s lack of control that I almost turned the game off.

Baseball question
does this mean Parra is
a) in position for the win
or
b) gets a no decision today?
seeing as they erased the lead after he was already pulled out, but he already pitched in the inning where they took the lead?
by PagsBrewCrew on Jun 22, 2008 2:41 PM CDT 0 recs
