i didn’t see any gay references
just “scrub” which refers in this instance to a pine-rider, a bench bum, etc.
I think he was picking on Uke’s .200 BA.

Schulman's response
In 20 years as a baseball writer, I believe I have shown more respect to players than I was shown by many Tigers fans who e-mailed me this week. One person even said he hopes I die. Now that’s class.
Todd Jones is free to write what he likes, but you should know that I had a two-day e-mail exchange with him; no matter how many different ways I admitted I made a mistake, he made it clear he was going to rip me in print to teach me a lesson.
