Thursday Open Thread
Brewers are off, but Cubs and Cards are in action.
At the moment, the Cards and Tigers are tied at 1 after seven complete, and the Cubs are down 5-0 to the Orioles after three. (Hey, that's only 5 Geovany Soto RBIs from a tie game!)

7-0 now
That is going to be a lot of Soto RBIs but it is still possible. Really wanting the cards to lose though.

Gameday
Weird. The batter designs at first made me wonder if it was early advertising for the LLWS or something.

His ERA is now above Dave Bush’s. That’s got to be a blow to the ego.

For those concerned about Prince’s weight, I hear he is on a new diet. It consist entirely of hitting in the park home runs. I hear he will start phase 2 this weekend.

Gagne
had to be pulled before he finished the first inning. A couple of hits, a walk, and a wild pitch, he got two outs on 29 pitches before they brought in Choate.

You're right:
According to the Rules, players on a Disabled List “may be assigned to a Minor League Club for the purpose of injury rehabilitation for a maximum of 20 days in the case of non-pitchers and 30 days in the case of pitchers.”

as it happens...
Choate also ended up throwing 29 pitches, but he managed to get through 2.1 innings with that. No hits, no walks, 1 K.
I can’t say I’m particularly excited, but I guess the Stetter/Choate roster swap can’t be far away…

Could be there right now. Not sure how you can suck at AAA and somehow be trusted in important games. I’m hoping Melvin realizes he just blew it, claim that Gagne has some season ending injury and be done with it.

One of two outings coming back from injury is enough to say he sucks at AAA, huh? Pretty quick hook there. I hope he spends more time in Nashville, but I wouldn’t say he sucks at AAA.

you're right
I’m saying, that if he does suck, I hope it doesn’t turn into one of those protracted Turnbow sagas. When I watch him, he seems to have all the ability necessary to be a really good closer. I’m still hopeful. But if he is broken mentally or whatever the hell happened that he can’t go out there and compete, forget him and move on.

Another ESPN blurb on Sabathia
This time from Jayson Starks:
Here at World Rumblings Headquarters, we’re hearing the same noises that our buddy Buster Olney has been hearing—that the Brewers loom as one of the most serious potential bidders on Sabathia, even if he’s just a rent-a-starter. The Brewers have a deep system. And principal owner Mark Attanasio has made it clear to his baseball operation that it’s time to go for it. So if Sabathia winds up somewhere other than Milwaukee, said one baseball man who has spoken with GM Doug Melvin, “it won’t be because they’re afraid to give up their prospects.”
He's extremely quick and good.
