Manny Parra, A Historical Perspective

My friends seem to be a bit more excited about Manny Parra's performance this season than I am, so it got me thinking...and doing a little "research" on Baseballreference.com.  Here's what I found:

Manny is 7-2, but sports an unsightly 1.607 WHIP over 79 2/3 IP.   How many other pitchers, in 105+ years of NL history, have sported such a high winning percentage with a 1.60 or higher WHIP (minimum 79 IP)?

Just one: Darren Holmes in 1997, went 9-2 with a 1.67 WHIP.

Suffice to say, it's quite anamolous to fare so well with such a high WHIP and I fear that Manny may have a less successful future than his past if he can't figure out how to throw strikes and/or avoid giving up hits.

It's also interesting that both Manny (#4) and Suppan (#10) are in the top ten highest 2008 WHIPs among NL starters.
