Now this, I believe.

Anybody else afraid when this clown comes back the winning ends?

Strangely enough

After MiLB Gameday made his first appearance look like Gagne was all over the place with his pitches and still getting called strikes on it, this time it looks like he basically threw nearly everything right down the middle (and still managed to miss the bats most of the time; shame there’s no velocity listed on MiLB) and was getting squeezed majorly on the strike zone. I honestly don’t know what conclusions to draw from his two appearances.

Incidentally, he also hit a batter in addition to the walk and two hits.

Gagne sucks but I want to focus on that Huntsville team

Another dinger for Escobar and with every one you kind of have to believe that power is for real. Two doubles for LaPorta and three walks for Gamel. Too bad Gamel made another error. I really would love to see a breakdown of those 22 errors to see if they were mostly fielding or throwing or both. With Escobar next to him he shouldn’t have far to go to get the balls.

Gamel's errors

13 fielding, 9 throwing.

FWIW, in April and May, only 3 of 11 errors were of the throwing variety. Of the 11 errors in June, 6 were on throws.

Thanks

Now I guess I should decide if I am happy or sad about that. It seems like he is having trouble in both key areas. That really makes me wonder if he is fixable? I wonder how he compares to Braun and Hart who both played 3rd at Huntsville.

Don Money seems to think he's quite fixable

Though Gamel’s admitted to getting the yips at third, and I don’t know how ballplayers differentiate between the yips and a full-on case of Steve Blass Disease.

He's extremely quick and good.

It seems like he’ll go about two weeks with no problems in the fielding department and then have two errors in a game. So it’s looking like mostly mental problems that have to be worked out yet, and that’s why he’s still at AA.

And neck size to baby eating ratio.

Featured Poll

Poll
Who is the Brewers' top prospect?
  • Brett Lawrie - Cana-DUH!
  • Mat Gamel - A great pure hitter who could potentially play a position of need.
  • Alcides Escobar - The Brewers sorely need his defensive wizardry and contact-hitting approach. He also solves the 3B hole by shifting J.J. over.
  • Jonathan Lucroy - The best catching prospect in the system by virtue of the fact that he can actually catch. His hitting numbers at Brevard are very good on the face of it, but even better after accounting for Space Coast Stadium.
  • Angel Salome - He's leading a Huntsville team that's loaded with prospects in all three slash stats, and he has the tools to be a good defensive catcher.
  • Jeremy Jeffress - The only real pitching prospect in a sea of hitters, Jeffress could potentially ease the pain of losing two aces by blossoming into one himself.
  • Carlos George - Hey, Derek Jeter can't play defense either.
