It's clearly from a newspaper
Consider it akin to Tom Haudricourt’s evil corporate version of LOLCATS.
He's extremely quick and good.
Trenni: Randy Johnson was unhittable early. What changed in the sixth?
Braun: Nothing, really. I’m just a superstar, baby. I just really want to kiss you right now.
He's extremely quick and good.
Obviously fictional
Braun doesn’t announce his intentions, he makes them happen.
"My thing is that you guys eat meat all day and you can't hit a ball. That's my thing." - P. Fielder
Can you imagine?
That would be funny. Of course, being FSN, the camera guys will have missed it.
Speaking of camera guys, we sat behind them a few years ago. I don’t know if they all did this, but one in particular, when there wasn’t action on the field, he’s use the camera to scope out hot girls. I don’t think it was for the filler images in between pitches either - I got the impression it was for his own amusement. A little creepy.
"I will agree that the attitude [at BCB] is ridiculous and they have done so much to instigate animosity and then block us from responding. Real mature!"
They do more than scope
When I used to live in Valpo back in the early 90’s I remember Steve and Gary from the Loop talking about a tape the camera crew at Soxs Park had sent them. Lets just say it would have been rated M for Mature if it was a video game lol
I guess a lot goes on in the Upper Decks lol.
Its all about the Bullpen this season that is the key.
i will always miss matty

Marquis is not great
He could implode here. The problem is can the Padres hold down the Cub offense? They have just been on fire.
Seems like the Cubs get behind by a run or two in every game
2-0, 3-2, etc, but come back to win every time, usually involving doubles by Mark DeRosa and Geovany Soto.
He's extremely quick and good.
So slightly off topic
I made a plot of the strike zone on 0-2 pitches and 3-0 pitches. Quite different.
what a great freaking night
get done watching the speech to find out the Crew reeled off five more runs and win in a blowout!
MORE MARGARITAS, FOR EVERYONE

2-0 now
RBI single by Gonzalez. I guess the Cubs have the Padres right where they want them.
He's extremely quick and good.
I just looked at gameday. Marquis is in the 60s after three. That bullpen has to blow a gasket eventually.
He is on my fantasy team
and it sure seems like it’s been blown for his last couple appearances.

I have a no Cub policy
And I sincerely hope it continues blowing at least until next week.
I have too much time to get anything done
To clarify my poor subject-verb continuity:
And I sincerely hope Marmol’s right shoulder continues blowing…
I have too much time to get anything done
I do too
But I had an auto-draft and was away from my computer during the draft… and took Soriano… I just finalized a trade for David Ortiz straight up, and this is what happens!
The designated hitter rule is like letting someone else take Wilt Chamberlain's free throws.
I play MadJimiBrewha this week.
Hence, I have added motivation for Marmol to continue scuffling.
I have too much time to get anything done
as long as my offense continues to flatline
I don’t think you have anything to worry about

I'll trade
I’ll swap one of my three true outcome players for some speed. If we used BAvg instead of OPS, my offense would be hurting too.
I have too much time to get anything done
baseball tonight hatin on the Brewers
They don’t show any of their homers in their “touch them all” feature. For web gems, they show Johnson bare handing and of course extended feature on RJs strikeout history.
Dear god
Huntsville scored 15 runs tonight. The damage:
Brantley: 3-6, 2 R, 1 RBI
Escobar: 3-6, 3 R
Gamel: 2-4, 2 R, 2 RBI, 1 2B, 2 BB
Salome: 3-4, 3 R, 6 RBI, 1 HR, 2 BB
LaPorta: 3-5, 2 R, 1 RBI, 3 2B, 1 BB
Gillespie: 3-5, 3 RBI, 1 2B, 1 BB
He's extremely quick and good.
and only 1 HR
always nice to see runs scored without the longball

What a team
Most of those guys I expected to hit but Escobar? What a big leap forward he has taken with the bat.
as Trenni would say
“hitting is contagious.”

It's especially the power that's encouraging
I mean, I think he could be a .280-.300 hitter, but I doubt he’s a .340 hitter. If he can slug over .400 at the big league level, though, that would be great.
He's extremely quick and good.
yeah
He use to be really young for his league but not so much anymore. Good to see him hitting for some power.

2-1 now
I am sick of all these fans cheering for the cubs when they are on the road. Why do people love that team so much? Seriously for a long time they were just a cash cow for the tribune and even now they are trying to bleed a ton of money from selling them.
The Cubs and Cub-love disturb me greatly
Want to go bury a Fielder jersey underneath home plate at Wrigley while they’re out of town?
He's extremely quick and good.
I share the sick feeling
I live in the Gaslamp (downtown San Diego). Thus, I have been surrounded by Cubs fans the last two evenings, leading me to boo each one I meet on the street. Even the Padres radio announcers (somewhat annoying themselves) commented on how Cubs fans are intolerable.
I have too much time to get anything done
Couple of comments from D-backs world
Gracie and Sutt making fun of McClung and how the dbacks can’t hit him…
and later
Are you kidding me? Braun looked like Peter Pan on that one…dbacks luck just sucks right now…
I would feel pretty much the same about McClung
I mean he has no history of pitching well and they were hitting some balls hard there.
by dixieflatline on Jun 3, 2008 10:26 PM CDT up reply actions
I don’t know if I would make fun of him though, especially if my team was being held down.
I had to laugh at the Peter Pan comment though.
You missed this one:
We gotta shell McClungHung out with him in Hawaii for a week and at the end he made a pass at the gf.
He's extremely quick and good.
Jamie, please confirm

So speaking of potential trading partners
I wonder if the Royals might be willing to give up Zack Greinke? He is getting kind of close to becoming expensive and they could use some of our prospects. Greinke seems like a guy Maddux would work well with.
I'd love him
but I think he’s a guy the Royals wouldn’t give up very easily. They’d probably require a good position player from Huntsville in a deal.
Whenever prince is at first, he should charge the mound and yell "MEAT!"
9 to the 9th power of them, if my math is correct
Whenever prince is at first, he should charge the mound and yell "MEAT!"
My uncle
Worked with Zach in Kansas City and says he has never seen an athlete who cares less than he does… he didn’t understand why coaches kept trying to fix his form, and why he had to go to games on days he didn’t pitch, he had to see sports psychologists and seems like the type of guy that could retire perfectly healthy at the age of 27… isn’t a headcase, but just didn’t seem to get it… but as long as he performs, I guess I wouldn’t mind
The designated hitter rule is like letting someone else take Wilt Chamberlain's free throws.
Is he still like that?
I have heard he has gotten a lot better about that. I also have heard that he really knows how to pitch. But you never really know about a player like that.
by dixieflatline on Jun 3, 2008 10:40 PM CDT up reply actions
I think he suffered from social anxiety order
Was the diagnosis, he was better when he came back… But he still doesn’t interact much with teammates from what I understand… but he has been better at taking directions from coaches
The designated hitter rule is like letting someone else take Wilt Chamberlain's free throws.
I mean you have to think carefully about trading the farm
But how long is the window going to be open? This will be the last year of Sheets most likely and our young players are going to be getting expensive pretty soon.

Back to the Cubs
Obviously they are off to a great start but maybe there is trouble brewing for them. Rich Hill can’t throw strikes in AAA even. Lilly and Marquis have been having trouble. Gallagher is a 5th starter at best. Dempster hasn’t thrown a ton of innings the last few years so he could tire as the season goes on.
interesting
the espn post game show is on time warner sports…but i’m watchin’ cubs game

For those watching the Cubs game
Does Ledezma remind you Vargas? I went to Ledezma’s start against the Reds a week ago and walked away vowing to never again go to a game he starts. The interesting part of the night occurred when the season-ticket holder next to me started talking about being good friends with Jim Skaalen.
I have too much time to get anything done
He pitched around Theriot
Not good when the bases are loaded. There are way too many Cubs fans at that game.
ledezma seems to work faster than vargas

Plus
They both cause disasters.
"My thing is that you guys eat meat all day and you can't hit a ball. That's my thing." - P. Fielder
Probably true
However, I feel as though every game he pitches takes about two hours to get through 4-1/2 innings, like tonight. They are both nibblers.
I have too much time to get anything done
This is pretty hard to watch
One of those guys you just want to grab through the TV and shake. “You eat other people’s lunches? Stop it!”
He's extremely quick and good.
Well it is past my bed time
After this inning ends I am heading to bed. Hope the padres can hold on here.
nice play by green to at least save a run

I have watched too many 2008 Padres games to believe that will do anything but prolong the inevitable suffering.
I have too much time to get anything done
Reluctantly
I entered 2008 thinking my 1st team, the Brewers would challenge for the division and my 2nd team, the Padres would at least pitch and field well. I have been thoroughly disappointed so far. The Padres’ downfall began in that 22 inning Rockies game.

Yeah, I live in SD. Fun city, except when Cubs fans litter the downtown.

Chin up, Charlie
You live in the same town as AleSmith, the best brewery on the planet.
He's extremely quick and good.
SD is a tough town to hang your head. Too many attractive walk by for that.

I cannot type.
Too many attractive women walk by for that.
I have too much time to get anything done
I stayed in a condo near the Palomar Observatory a few years ago, north of SD
It was gorgeous.
He's extremely quick and good.
I haven't been up there.
I live on 5th and Broadway so the Petco Park crowds create a nice buzz in the city on game nights. It reminds me of a toned down Badger Saturday on Regent St.
I have too much time to get anything done
Stone is good but suffers a bit from 2007 Brewers disease
i.e. overhype
AleSmith is still tiny, and I would baptize my kid in Speedway Stout.
He's extremely quick and good.
Hmmm...
I’ll give it a try. The bar a block away has 150 beers on tap. Sounds like a good drink for a post-Cubs loss celebration.
I have too much time to get anything done
The Yardhouse
It is close and has the selection of beer downtown.
I have too much time to get anything done
Ha.
Beer selection. However, I would not turn my nose on the women selection, even if a few are a little skunky.
I have too much time to get anything done
I never lived there
I just like the internet. I live in Milwaukee, yeah.
He's extremely quick and good.
I mistook your staying in a condo as living there. Your knowledge of SD breweries also contributed to my mistake. Did you try any Red Trolley beers? I’m not a big fan.
I have too much time to get anything done
I am a huge beer nerd, and have traded for beers unavailable here (Stone, AleSmith, etc) through the mail
Never had Red Trolley, though.
He's extremely quick and good.
Funny story
When we were planning on going out there, a couple people told us to visit La Jolla and go sea kayaking. We were looking all over the map and internet for “La Hoya” and could not find it to save our lives. We thought it must be some supersecret place, like one of those bars with no signs. Turns out, we’re just retarded.

"I will agree that the attitude [at BCB] is ridiculous and they have done so much to instigate animosity and then block us from responding. Real mature!"
The internet is great.
One has to love excessive amounts of second-class journalism, cheap-subscriptions to every baseball game, and of course, the women.
Hey, maybe Tom H. saw Avenue Q and thus thinks the internet is only for porn. Hence, is distaste for blogs.
I have too much time to get anything done
I still don't understand why Ledezma didn't throw to second on that pitch that got away from Barrett
He's extremely quick and good.
The Cubs have had a lead in every game since May 9th
25 games. Also, Soto just winked at the camera. I want to squeeze habanero juice in his open eye.
He's extremely quick and good.
NL Central
much improved over the last couple of years. Nothing like going 8-1 and losing a game in the standings!
As a division
I think we’re 26 games over .500 (or around there).
"I will agree that the attitude [at BCB] is ridiculous and they have done so much to instigate animosity and then block us from responding. Real mature!"
The NL Central
Has DOMINATED the NL West
Combined record of all teams in the NL Central vs the NL West is 55-31, 24 games above .500. Against the NL and AL East the division is 42-40, so correct a combined 26 games above .500 (of course games vs the Central are a wash).
The designated hitter rule is like letting someone else take Wilt Chamberlain's free throws.
