Weird, but not weird.

Doug Melvin, June 9th, 2008 (According to Tom Haudricourt):

"Rickie has a weird stat line," said Melvin. "He has a low batting average but some stat people say he's still productive, with the runs scored and that."

Ned Yost, May 7th, 2008 (According to JS Online and other sources):

"See, you guys have no concept. He's a run scorer. There's nothing weird about it.  That's what he does."

Hmmm.  Somone should tell Melvin that he has no concept, since Rickie's a run scorer and there is nothing weird about him scoring runs despite the low batting average.

what I want to know is...

which stat people are on board with this:

“some stat people say he’s still productive, with the runs scored and that.”

You can point to his OBP, sure … that makes him respectable. But runs scored? If Abe Nunez were batting leadoff with Braun third, he’d be racking up the runs scored.

Also, cheese.

I want to know what Melvin meant by that

Is he saying Rickie is productive in his eyes or isn’t?

He's extremely quick and good.

Or Abe Vigoda.

Dude’s still working, by the way. He’s got to be close to 90.

He has a new show with Erik Estrada

I think it’s called Fish & CHiPs.

:)

"I will agree that the attitude [at BCB] is ridiculous and they have done so much to instigate animosity and then block us from responding. Real mature!"

When will management learn

that runs scored is a product of where you bat in the order, HOW OFTEN YOU ARE ON BASE, and how well the batters behind you are able to move you around. Weeks looks good because hr is not batting 7th or 8th and has the meat of the order to drive him in. If Kendall was leading off. his runs scrored be similar to Weeks. Weeks speed may have meant another run or two each month but another player with a better OBP would also mean more runs scored.
