Game Thread #92: Rockies (39-53) at Brewers (50-41)
After last night's debacle, I'm not going to make any remarks about the quality of a certain ex-Brewer pitching for the Rockies. I'll just note that Jorge de la Rosa is starting for Colorado, and for whatever reason, he's been rejected by both the Brewers (before we were good) and the Royals. Make of that what you will.
Dave Bush is starting for the Crew. His 4.74 ERA is now closer to his 2006 number than his 2007 mark, and he's down to a blistering 3.20 in his last seven starts. He has a 2.87 home ERA, which isn't quite as good as Parra's, but is better than Ben's. But still, I shall not comment on the likely outcome of this game.
Game time is 1:05 CT, and here's the BR Game Preview.
Go Brewers!

I LOVE DAY GAMES
Especially with MLBtv, I can watch the entire game at work and helps the afternoon fly by… also with this game the game should end right when I normally leave work!

when will it be time to ask Jason Kendall for forgiveness?
I thought he would absolutely suck and just kill the lineup. Now I see the error in my ways, I realize that instead of being terrible, he’s just below average. That is a dramatic difference from what I was expecting. Kudos for not sucking too bad

From McCalvy
The Brewers are giving some thought to a fifth starter platoon, in which McClung would make road starts and Bush would pitch at Miller Park.Entering Thursday, Bush is 3-2 with a 2.87 ERA in eight starts at home and 1-6 with a 6.95 ERA in nine games, including eight starts, on the road. McClung, who started the season in the bullpen, is 1-1 with a 3.28 ERA in 11 appearances on the road and 4-3 with a 5.08 ERA in nine games at home.
Does anybody else see this as highly impractical?

me me me
I’m just irritated because Saturday’s game is sold out and I really wanted to see McClung start before the faery dust washes off him and he turns into himself again.
Also what happens when Bush starts to suck at home…?

Tom H. isn't done with Mota:
http://blogs.jsonline.com/brewers/archive/2008/07/10/mota-not-being-dumped.aspx
Some highlights:
In a decision that’s sure to cause much anguish across Brewer Nation, manager Ned Yost just told us that there are no plans to get rid of reliever Guillermo Mota, who has been a human batting practice machine of late.
Yost said he didn’t think Mota’s confidence was shattered and that he’d be able to handle the inevitable booing at home that comes with his entrance into games.
Suffice it to save I have huge doubts about all of that. If the Brewers allow Mota to continue to lose games, the quote from general manager Doug Melvin that “we’re going for it” after the CC Sabathia signing will start to ring hollow.
My only guess is that the Brewers don’t think they have a better alternative. And I’d say just about anybody is a better alternative right now.If the Brewers end up losing the division by two games again this year, they’ll regret how many games they allowed Mota to spit up.
But, of course, that’s just my opinion.

RE: Mota
Ned’s postgame interview last night and the pre game presser today were hilarious. Tom H. was pressing him on the Mota subject pretty hard today, and Ned was pretty agressive in disagreeing with him. After last night’s game, the first question was about Mota, and Ned wouldn’t even resond and he just said “Benny pitched a great game tonight.”
I’m not the biggest Yost fan or the biggest detractor, but Jesus that guy and the media go together like nuts & gum.

In the questioning, I recognized McCalvy and Haudricourt, but there was also someone with an older sounding voice pushing him on Mota. I wonder who that was.
Ned was right that Mota didn’t “lose the game” or any game. The press people there could have done a much better job of phrasing the question.
