Game Thread #93: Reds (44-49) at Brewers (51-41)

The only Brewers pitcher on more of a hot streak than Dave Bush, especially at home, is Manny Parra.  Parra is holding opponents to a .646 OPS at Miller Park--basically, he turns the opposition lineup into nine Jason Kendalls on a bad day, only without the grit.  Even more impressive, Parra has a 2.08 ERA in his last seven starts, including three scoreless outings in his last four.

Josh Fogg goes for the Reds, and the same positive things cannot be said about him.

And, oh yeah, don't know if you noticed, but the Brewers are currently leading in the NL Wild Card, with the second best record in the National League.

Game time is 7:05 CT, and here's the BR Game Preview.

Go Brewers!

Jeff, haven't you learned your lesson yet?

You shouldn’t talk about our pitchers’ awesomeness. You have to simply post that you promise we will not suck tonight.

Talking about awesomeness...

worked pretty well last night…

Also, cheese.

i see

we learned nothing from the sheets/rusch fiasco

yesterday

was pretty noncommittal “But still, I shall not comment on the likely outcome of this game.” And there you said that Bush wasn’t as good as Parra. so you did not talk about awesomeness:P

commenting on the suckiness of the opposition = cool.
commenting on our own awesomeness = not cool;)

Just about every time it is stated that Sheets is a guaranteed win, we lose;) I just don’t want that to extend to the other pitchers.

Hopefully Parra

Can continue the streak tonight. I could use some good news after listening to this whole Favre saga today. Damn that man, it’s like becoming a widow, grieving, coming to terms, remarrying, and then your spouse comes back from the dead…what do you do???

"He's been very, very impressive," Yost said. "I mean really impressive. I mean really, really impressive."

Well, this undead spouse is asking for a divorce so (s)he can remarry

I would think the undead are fairly scant on legal privileges.

i am so sick

of watching prince suck on defense. 1b defense is one of the most underrated assets in my opinion. i’m not real familiar with defensive metrics, but i’d imagine that derrek lee’s glove is worth a lot of runs

Bill Hall

One of the few drawbacks of playing him against us.

Hey Dusty...Are you sure you're OK? You might need an MRI.

I'm a big fan of bringing Torres in here

Despite the walk.

He's extremely quick and good.

Full count

Hold on to your butts.

He's extremely quick and good.

this is unbelievable

by marty22 on Jul 11, 2008 9:38 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

That's why we pay Cameron the big bucks!

To catch two out of three moderately difficult balls!

He's extremely quick and good.

by battlekow on Jul 11, 2008 9:39 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

that was a very nice play…he just glides to the ball because he gets such good jumps

Andruw Jones syndrome?

At least he stayed upright.

yeah he glides

he just forgets to catch the ball sometimes

by Bigdogg2002 on Jul 11, 2008 9:40 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

His error really was a hard play

He was running so fast just to get close to it that he overran the ball and missed it. His nonerror with Mota pitching the other night was much worse in my opinion.

Nope, can't think of any.

Any more you want to unnecessarily demonize?

Plus it grazed him in the face, isn’t that punishment enough?

Don't worry guys.

You’ll tie the game up. David Weathers is in to pitch instead of Jared Burton.

Hmm.

Didn’t quite work there. Could have been the tinfoil hat Weathers was wearing.

Weathers was our closer. Coco looks like a Greek god in comparison.

do you guys think it was fair?

do you guys think it was fair to give the error to billy instead of prince?

I can’t say, but Billy did short hop him. Its not like he doesn’t know who’s over there.

Minors

Huntsville up 10-3 top of 9th
Gamel 3-5
Escobar 3-5

Nashville won 5-4

The Wallbangers won because they played the game like kids! Let's do that again!!!

by Flag Up on Jul 11, 2008 10:05 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

True, but he’s been calling a lot of those outside pitches strikes.

by ol Pete on Jul 11, 2008 10:07 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Yeah

Either way, a lot more than iffy strike calls led to the loss.
