McClung's split indoor/outdoor, not home/away?
I was thinking about the proposed home/away pitching platoon involving Seth McClung and Dave Bush. The Bush splits were already well-accounted for by dixieflatline in his post. I don't have the same nifty data analysis tools or the knowledge to work up McClung's away splits in the same method, but I did go over to Baseball Reference to check one of my hunches out. I think I may be correct, because...
...it's not that McClung is awful at home so much as he's not as good indoors as out. (Note: the Miller Park roof was not opened until the end of May in 2008.)
Outdoors, his WHIP is 1.31; indoors, it's 1.45. The big difference is in OPS, with .648 outdoors and .823 indoors.
I'm also wondering about games he's pitched in where the roof has opened and closed during the game. I recall the roof was opened and shut several times during his 6/21 start against Baltimore, but he started 4 other times in parks with retractable roofs and I can't find any data on roof openings in those.

nifty observation there
"I will agree that the attitude [at BCB] is ridiculous and they have done so much to instigate animosity and then block us from responding. Real mature!"

That is some crazy stuff
Maybe we need a three man platoon Bush at home McClung road and outdoors and Villy road and indoors :)

Dome starts
It actually rained in Houston for once on June 10, so I’d guess the dome was closed for his start there (maybe it was the game the Astros had all their Go Green stuff up while the A/C was blasting). The dome was closed for all the games in Arizona because the baseball probably would’ve melted otherwise so his July 2 start was indoors as well.
It also rained in Milwaukee last Monday so I think the dome must’ve been closed for at least part of his start. Who knows how/when they make the decision but it didn’t rain in Milwaukee anywhere near or after gametime on June 15 so they probably had the roof open.
The team should have the roof closed and panels open more, they’re 3-0 with that setup in 2008. Second best is Roof Open/Panels Open at 12-5, followed by Roof Closed/Panels Closed at 15-10. They have yet to record a decision when the roof is open and the panels are closed (that would be weird).

FWIW
Both the MLB and BB-Ref boxscores have roof open/closed information listed. Doesn’t account for opening/closing it in the middle of the game, of course (not sure which state gets listed then), but other than that it’s there and seems to be accurate.

Thanks for the info. I had known about the days where the roofs started closed and started open, but other than going back into my saved games on my DVR to see if things changed I didn’t know where to look for the other data—where’d you find the bits about roof and panels for Miller Park?
