Saturday Afternoon Open Thread

I don't know if KL Snow is planning on a Mug today, but the Cubs have a game going on (Rich Harden is making his first start for them), so feel free to use this thread to chat about that and post any links that you've found.

UPDATE: Giants somehow tie the game with two in the 8th off Hardy Hart Hart and five in the 9th off Marmol.

3-0 Cubs in the bottom of the 4th

Harden struck out the side in the top and has 8 K’s through 4, the bastard. Cock Ass hit a HR, as well.

He's extremely quick and good.

Well it looks like we are going to have to win to keep pace

We are actually favored by the slightest of margins by Vegas, -110. Honestly I think that is very generous but maybe we have a better chance tonight than I think.

Yeah, not beating Volquez...

You enjoying Harden’s start? You think he’ll break the 20 K record today? :-)

Nope

But I do think that he’ll share a similar fate with the previous Cubs pitcher to strike out 20 in a game.

Career at Wrigley

.259/.381/.578, for a tOPS+ of 111.

What’s interesting is that he’s actually underperforming his eBABIP, by fairly large margins. In fact, while a Padre, his BABIP was almost lower than his LD%, .227 to .224. As a Cub, his BABIP is only .269, while his eBABIP is .328.

There’s nothing wrong in admitting that the Brewers aren’t anywhere near as good as the Cubs. Such an admittance would only make you look intelligent.

Banned?

This site is hilarious. Unfortunately the leader of this site doesnt realize that fans from the other teams, even fans who are trolling, make the site more entertaining.

WONDER IF ILL GET BANNED FOR THIS. Afterall, I am a Cubs fan. And also, IMO, the Cubs are a better team.

Jeff realizes that

And there’s room for many fans from other teams to come on and debate things, which they do constantly, but when people flat out tell us we suck all the time and all they do is insult the team (or post spam), that’s the point when they get banned.

I’m sure it’s the same on the Cubs blog.

Hi, I'm not Jeff

You don’t get banned for liking the Cubs. You get banned for coming over here and insulting us. Don’t like our banning practices? Don’t like the Brewers? Don’t like spelling? Fine, don’t visit.

He's extremely quick and good.

by battlekow on Jul 13, 2008 11:08 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Well

You also haven’t posted on here a lot, so I’m guessing you don’t read everything over here everyday. And, given that fact, you probably haven’t seen how bad it gets on here if people who make malicious comments are allowed to continue.

There’s a huge process Jeff goes through before banning people too, so he really doesn’t do it unless he sees a need to. Trust me, he’s a really good guy and wouldn’t just ban people left and right for expressing their opinions.

Ive seen it

Ive also seen people on the other BCB post what got them banned, and please, he is still quick.

It also seems that he will ban people if they come gloating. Gloating is fine IMO and yes insults deserve banishment.

“Dont like spelling” I like spelling. Its funny when people attack others on a board for spelling and grammar. I apologize for not putting my post throug WORD first.

Gloating like that is poor sportsmanship

It’s like in high school, when all the popular kids would beat up on us geeks just to make themselves feel better.

Again, it goes back to the insulting business.

Gallagher did well for Oakland yesterday

7.0 IP, 2 H, 2 ER, 3 BB, 7 K. Excellent game. Hopefully the rest of his stay in the AL this year will be as spectacular.

Oh, and Murton started.

so far

the Cubs are talking about skipping his turn or pitching him on 5 days rest (he is much better when he gets that much time off) to try and keep him healthy. We have the luxury of doing that and its nice to see the Cubs are keeping in mind this guy was traded for to help in October not to win the divison.

Amazing I have seen ACB in at other BCB sites

going on at length how Cubs fans never even think about Milwaukee and the Brewers but where are they all today?

Amazing how fans of a team with a 100 history of futility have such short memories isn’t it.

They forget being in first at the All-Star Break means nothing

enjoy beating up on the Giants sooner or later the two teams will meet and we will see what happens so far this season it has been to the Brewers side of the ledger

But you guys most likely do not remember that what with the whole ignore our history thing you guys have going

Question to the Cubs fans how come with all their World Series Championships the Cards fans are not flaming asshats like Cubs who have not won one in 100 years are?

Its all about the Bullpen this season that is the key.

Start Seth in my Fantasy league?

I picked him up 2 weeks ago for a spot start and he for some reason has stuck on my team, With Matterson and Kershaw sent down I’m really struggling to find starters.

ERA for the week is 1.80

Team I’m playing has an ERA of 2.80 going into today. He has Marmol. He also has no more starters going today or sunday. I have 3 potential starts with, Danks (In Texas), Seth, and Dice-K tomorrow.

I’m losing whip. 1.20 to 1.08

Also trailing in wins 2-1.
