Braun sells out
Ryan Braun made a horrifying discovery during his first all-star clubhouse experience.

“It turns out that all the Cubs are kind of nice guys,” the Brewers leftfielder told me this afternoon. “That’s unfortunate. I thought it would be easy to dislike them.”

Braun has learned you can want to kick somebody’s butt on the field but still shoot the breeze with them in the all-star atmosphere. First-timers, such as Braun and Brewers rightfielder Corey Hart, often are surprised at how cordial even the biggest stars in the league can be.

“At first, it’s kind of overwhelming,” said Hart. “Then, you realize how friendly the guys are. I got to talk to (Cubs outfielder Kosuke) Fukudome and he’s a good guy. Kind of quiet, but a good guy.

But the Brewers have no long-time NL rival, and Chicago is just obvious. Combine that with a little inferiority complex and the notoriously entitled Cubs fanbase, and you can see how some hatred develops.

BCB's "very own marginally deserving all-star!"

by battlekow on Jul 15, 2008 8:30 PM CDT up reply actions

Yep..

I really didn’t mind the Cubs till we switched to the NL. I can remember like yesterday going to my first Cubs @ Crew game. We had the VERY top row nose bleeds.

We were surrounded by Cub fans, families. So we simply cheered for our team, weren’t dicks, weren’t mocking the Cubs. Then some time around the 5th when the Cubs took a good 2 run lead, some father turned around and said “Suck it, your fin Brewers suck”. And then a bunch of punk ass teenagers started in.

I don’t mind other fans in our park, Cards fans are generally cool, Twins fans (minus a few) are pretty cool. But Cub fans just… just… are assholes in our park.

by SgtClueLs on Jul 15, 2008 8:34 PM CDT up reply actions

i don't understand

how a manager can justify substituting all star subs for say a “lesser player” in a game that decides homefield advantage for the world series.

my brother had a great idea. let the coaches come from the 3 division leaders and the head manager be from the team who has the best record in that league. no idea if that’d stop the political semantics of making sure everyone gets it…it probably wouldn’t, but i just don’t get it…
