the PCL versus IL was on TV last night

I missed most if it but saw some Rottino behind the plate. He looked pretty comfortable. Also saw Pena. I don’t know how accurate the stadium radar gun was but he was throwing some serious heat – I think he might have hit 99. But he didn’t look good. The batters were sitting on the fastball and whacked him around pretty hard.

I linked to the video of him in the Empty Mug fanshot

Pena’s really confusing. I don’t see how a guy with his stuff can be so hittable. Poor control is one thing, but he’s allowing better than a hit an inning.

Fastballs up in the zone is what it looked like to me. Needs more of the splitter and whatever other pitches he has.

He's got a cutter/slider

A slutter?

"I will agree that the attitude [at BCB] is ridiculous and they have done so much to instigate animosity and then block us from responding. Real mature!"

Cody Scarpetta

What is his projection for the future? Heh my daily queries here might just turn into Prospect o the Day.

"While conservatives tell you 'leave things alone and no one will lose,' and liberals tell you 'interfere a lot and no one will lose,' baseball says 'someone will lose.' Not only says it - but insists upon it! ... Democracy is lovely, but baseball's more mature." BVCE supports SF Dugout and Manny Burriss.

I talked a little bit about Scarpetta here. There’s a link to an interview I did with him in there. Basically, he’s a legit pitching prospect, a top-three-rounds talent that fell because of injury.

Zach Braddock DL'd, Mike Ramlow promoted to Brevard County

link

Well, that sucks about Braddock. Maybe that’s why he hasn’t been pitching very well. Jihad will be very happy about Ramlow getting a shot, though.

Now that it's over, how will you remember the Brewers' season?
  • A rousing success. They made the playoffs, something they hadn't done since before many bloggers here were born.
  • Mostly satisfying. If you'd told me 90 wins and a playoff berth at the beginning of the year, I'd have taken it, but the limp the finish took some of the sparkle off.
  • Great on its own, but downgraded after accouting for context; with Sabathia and Sheets most likely having thrown their last pitch for the team, the Brewers may have blown their golden opportunity.
  • I'm left feeling unfulfilled. I think the team was capable of a lot more than it showed. With a healthy Sheets, who knows how far they go?
  • They're the crappiest bunch of crap that ever crapped.
