Thursday's Empty Mug
Upon further review, I do need a one-day All Star Break...there's not much out there by way of Brewer news, and I need to get to the DMV before the line stretches around the block. If you have a link to share, post it in the comments, otherwise I'll be back tomorrow.
Drink up.

You should bring your trash with you.
I’m dying to find out how the KL Snow trash soap opera ends. And when are you going to get an avatar for yourself?

The trash saga
Actually ended later yesterday morning, when a second truck showed up and took my garbage. I’m still not entirely sure why, as the first truck took everyone else’s garbage, but left mine. Then a third truck showed up to pick up the recycling. It’s all a mystery.
As for an avatar…it’s prioritized behind finding interesting stuff to post in the Mug every morning, which is about a 12-16 hour/week job as it is.

It sounds to me
like you’re begging to have a contest where your BCB readers get to pick your avatar for you! :D

Of course all depends on your municipality, but its pretty standard to collect trash and recyclables separately. There is also the “special pickup,” so if you had some odd stuff out with your trash that would explain it.
For a down and dirty avatar to hold you over, just go to google image and fire away. How about a dachshund puppy? If the image itself is too big, grab the preview.

i'm an idiiot
so, the new iGoogle page threw me through a loop last night and I accidentally deleted my entire “home” tab. Now that i’m the the process of re-building it, I can’t seem to find the Brew Crew Ball widget anywhere. Does anybody know what happened to it? Am I just searching for the wrong thing? I’ve tried everything from “Brew Crew Ball” to “Brewers Blogparty” to “Brewers Gangbang”.

New story from the folks at Interactive Gangbang.com
Murray Chass started a blog, and then promptly declares it to not be a blog.
And neck size to baby eating ratio.

Makes me wonder
if jerks like Chass hate bars and coffee shops as well, or, for that matter, any place where someone might confuse him with something as simple as reason. It makes me feel nice that with every comment I post I am deathly terrifying hack writers who still refuse to accept ideas and concepts of a game that were, for the most part, created before I was born.

Check out Luis Pena in last night's PCL All-Star Game
Click here and scroll to 2:37:00. The numbers they put up for him aren’t his, so don’t get as excited as I got (“wow, I’ve been underrating him!”). He does look pretty imposing out there, especially striking out a guy on a 94 mph splitter.

FutureRedbirds breaks down the Sabathia deal and estimates that the Brewers now have the 19th-best system in baseball. Quotable quote about Odorizzi:
They drafted Brett Lawrie and Jake Odorizzi in the first and supplemental rounds, respectively, giving them two players with extremely high ceilings, both of whom I greatly coveted. I’m a big believer in Odorizzi in particular; in fact, I’m going to go on record right now and say I think he ends up the best pitcher in the entire 2008 draft class. So, the Brewers did add two top ten sort of talents, while only losing probably one.

the luckiest pitcher of 2008
I accidentally lost the URL, but there was a short article in the Boston Globe today about Daisuke Matsuzaka’s W-L record and ERA completely not matching with what he’s actually doing with his pitching.
Pitcher 1: .239 opponent batting average, 1.78 K/BB, 1.35 WHIP, 4.28 average run support
Pitcher 2: .202 opponent batting average, 1.35 K/BB, 1.38 WHIP, 5.40 average run support
Pitcher 3: .238 opponent batting average, 2.54 K/BB, 1.15 WHIP, 5.74 average run support
Which one is Dice-K and which two are certain run- and/or win-challenged Brewers end of the rotation guys?
by morineko on Jul 17, 2008 4:52 PM CDT 0 recs
Is Dice-K #2?
I’ve looked at the stats recently, but forgot which WHIP is his.

That certainly is Matsuzaka. #1 is Seth McClung and #2 is Dave Bush.

no, it means that i was attacked by a sudden moment of not getting my numbers straight.
the Sox should be wishing they had Dave Bush…hey, that’s a great idea for one of those insane message board trade proposals. Bush for Pedroia, straight up.
