Around SBN: Leandro Damiao Is Still Really Good

Game Thread #97: Brewers (53-43) at Giants (40-56)

Nice feeling, right?  We have an ace pitch one night, and then another ace goes the next day.  This afternoon's matchup is Ben Sheets and Jonathan Sanchez.  Sanchez has come a long way since his 4-inning, 7-run outing against the Brewers the opening week of the season--he's got a sub-4.00 ERA and hasn't allowed more than three runs in a start in more than a month.

Of course, Sheets is pretty good, too.

Game time is 3:15 CT, and here's the BR Game Preview.

Go Brewers!

Batting Practice

FSN is showing the game where Prince hit his 50th home run last season. Two things I completely missed when I watched this game last season:

1) Rock mocking Tony LaRussa for batting the pitcher 8th.
2) The Dodge player of the game? Not Prince Fielder who hit two 2 run home runs and his 50th of the season. It was Jeff Suppan, who had a very good game (8 IP 1 ER)...but, um…yeah…perhaps the record setter should’ve gotten the nod?

Good times…

I concur

This might be little like me complaining that the Google Maps Street View feature doesn't work in Canada...

But isn’t it a little ridiculous that not every game is on TV? I mean, why not? Is this the dark ages? Aren’t Rock and BA already there? What’s the hold up? It’s not like they miss a radio broadcast here and there.

by ZTK Always on Vacation on Jul 19, 2008 3:24 PM CDT up reply actions

Maybe a small sales feature for MLBtv?

by ol Pete on Jul 19, 2008 3:27 PM CDT up reply actions

We can't watch the game on mlb.tv anyway

It's about FOX

FOX refuses to let FSN games broadcast during the FOX Saturday baseball game. So it’s stupid of the Giants to schedule a game conflicting with that, too.

And neck size to baby eating ratio.

Ahh...

From the people who brought you NFL Sunday Ticket only available on DirecTV…gotta love the “Give the customer less product” business model.

by ZTK Always on Vacation on Jul 19, 2008 3:34 PM CDT up reply actions

The history of media actually is the exact opposite

There is so much coverage these days it is incredible… more games available ever in the history of sports… when you get one game that is unavailable, you are so used to watching you forget the days when 30 games were on Tv

This inning is why we need a lead off hitter that gets on

When your lead off can’t get on, 2 hits go for naught

But I am listening to Uke and Jim, watching Red Sox/Angels, and keeping tabs on SD-St Louis via Gameday…so…not too bad for a Saturday afternoon.

Amazing Baseball town

When you stop and think of all the other things there are to do in Frisco but they still go to the games.

Even on a night like last night where I saw people wearing scarves to a July baseball game

Hell of a town.

Its all about the Bullpen this season that is the key.

Ok, it's a manage-off!

Ned, Bruce, on your marks…get set…

...it’s a close game, there are several innings left to play. Do you bring in:

a) your worst reliever
b) someone who might get multiple outs

If you said (a), you win today’s manage-off!

Also, cheese.

by Jeff Sackmann on Jul 19, 2008 5:26 PM CDT reply actions

I wonder if Carlos wasn’t warmed up yet or there was some confidence building strategy involved in not bringing him a batter or two earlier.

I loved the speculation about the conversation

between Yabu, Molina, and the pitching coach- he says that Molina is fluent in Espanol, and Yabu doesn’t speak English, and the pitching coach speaks Italian.

For some quick comedy relief

Watch MLB.com’s Gameday highlight of Fielder’s home run. Powell screams “and he sends the sailboats scurrying!” as the camera swivels to show an area of the water virtually void of any boats whatsoever.

No Bonds, no sailboats I guess

truely an impressive shot

the right fielder didn’t even budge…just turned around and watched
i didn’t even see any fans making a leaping attempt..

just powerful as hell.
