Game Thread #84: Brewers (45-38) at D-backs (42-42)

Matchup is Seth McClung and Yusmeiro Petit.  We're back within 5 of the division lead, but as long as the Cubs are playing the Giants, we'll need to keep winning to stay there.

Game time is 8:40 CT, and here's the BR Game Preview.

Go Brewers!

all breasts, nothing but the breasts.

Also, cheese.

Haha, I noticed that too

I figured I was pushing my luck just posting it though, without calling attention to the risque cropping.

He's extremely quick and good.

whereas I

cannot push my luck. I define the boundaries of the acceptable as just barely beyond what I do.

Braun

just voted another 25 times for the man. Everyone get your votes in!

by molitorfan on Jul 2, 2008 6:30 PM CDT   0 recs

Question:

Can the voting mechanism computer things verify the IP address of one’s computer? Wouldn’t that than make multiple e-mail addresses worthless?

I just want to make sure..

by NoahJ on Jul 2, 2008 6:35 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

No

you can vote 25 times per e-mail address. I voted 50 times from this computer.

Pat Venditte, the favorite Yankee prospect of BCB (is there such an animal?) inspired a rule change

link

The pitcher must visually indicate to the umpire, batter and runner(s) which way he will begin pitching to the batter. Engaging the rubber with the glove on a particular hand is considered a definitive commitment to which arm he will throw with. The batter will then choose which side of the plate he will bat from.
That’s the opposite of what happened in Venditte’s (in)famous debut.

He's extremely quick and good.

Brett Wallace

The famously big-assed ASU 3B that the Cardinals drafted with the 13th pick this year is making his pro debut tonight for Quad Cities. If he had still been around when the Brewers were on the board, it would have been interesting. You’ll probably see him in the big leagues by 2010. He can really hit.

He's extremely quick and good.

by battlekow on Jul 2, 2008 6:46 PM CDT   0 recs

Jay Bruce has already homered twice in two innings

Pirates were ahead 4-0 after one, now behind 5-4 after two.

He's extremely quick and good.

No Braun tonight

Counsell replaces Weeks atop the lineup. Hart is third. Kapler gets the start in left.

Is this lineup worse than yesterdays?

The designated hitter rule is like letting someone else take Wilt Chamberlain's free throws.

by Kyguy922 on Jul 2, 2008 7:29 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Yesterday's lineup wasn't bad

My only question about yesterday was having Kendall in the same lineup as Rivera, considering all the Things Happening to Catchers this week.

However, Rivera was ace at 1st, Hall had his good D glove on as well, and the actual failure point of the lineup was having Jeff Suppan involved in it.

by morineko on Jul 2, 2008 7:46 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

speaking of catchers

Augie Ojeda was the emergency catcher for the D-Backs last night.

Lorenzo Cain just hit a three-run homer

He’s as primed for a breakout next year at Huntsville as anyone in the system.

He's extremely quick and good.

All-Star voting ending tonight

Doesn’t “This time it counts!!!!” just encourage you to vote for the crappy players in the league that your team isn’t in? That way your league is more likely to win, and you help your team should they make the World Series. Are we supposed to have more honor than that? Because I sure don’t.

He's extremely quick and good.

See my question/comment from last night. I vote for my AL fantasy guys and other schmucks

Plus the NL is at a disadvantage

Two more teams to include on the roster means more chances for the Lance Carters and Mark Redmans to clutter things up.

What I don't get about the Sox

Pedroia’s good, to be sure (wish we had him, but only if he knocks off his constant repositioning of his batting gloves) but what the heck is up with Daisuke Matsuzaka? Right now, he’s walked four, given up two hits, and managed to only give up one run. That defense behind him must be something else or he’s just been incredibly lucky this year.

by morineko on Jul 2, 2008 8:08 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

2 Doubles?

I am surprised he didn’t stop at 1st… he could have had his cycle!

From Rotoworld
Pirates placed RHP Matt Capps on the 15-day disabled list with bursitis in his right shoulder and internal rotation deficit.

Isn’t an “internal rotation deficit” what forced the Yankees to sign Sidney Ponson?

by battlekow on Jul 2, 2008 8:59 PM CDT   0 recs

He was working really hard this past weekend on attempting to field ground balls. Unfortunately he still falls over himself about 60% of the time.

by morineko on Jul 2, 2008 9:00 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

I was at the Dome this weekend

I came early to watch BP. I don’t know, honestly, if he was goofing around out there or trying to make good attempts at fielding.

Granny was at home watching the games. ;)

Anyone for dessert?

by battlekow on Jul 2, 2008 9:08 PM CDT   0 recs

Other than McClung?

So how bad did he look out there? (I’m stuck watching the Sox at Rays, sort of…)

by morineko on Jul 2, 2008 9:13 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

not really bad at all

well, except for hitting a couple batters

by ol Pete on Jul 2, 2008 9:14 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

His command is iffy

They keep saying he has a “dead arm”. I guess it’s a good thing that he’s still sitting at 93 and touching 95 with a dead arm. Getting the hit batter/inning ratio below two would be good.

He's extreme
