Gotta feel Great
taking the first 2 with CC and Sheets finishing the series.
"He's been very, very impressive," Yost said. "I mean really impressive. I mean really, really impressive."

Can we just assume the sweep now?
The Brewers may be in first by the end of the week.

Let's not get too wild
Sheets has not been quite as good lately. Wellemeyer has pitched well for them too.

I do like the Sabathia matchup though
The cards have a decent amount of quality left handed bats that either sit or pay the price.

Cubs fans are willing to assume a sweep against the Marlins 3 days before the series starts. At least I had the good taste to wait for two games to be played.

Yes, exactly
But, great shot for at least 3-1, and that’s a net of two games up for the series, on the road.
No way to complain about that.

Wellemeyer
Wellemeyer got a lot of press over his hot start and the fact that expectations were so low for him, but his ERA is now up to 4.22 and his ERA over the last month is nearly 6.00.
He is fine as a rotation filler I suppose, but he hasn’t been pitching well.

our fate for the next few years was sealed when Drayton went conventional and picked Ed Wade to be our GM. talk about the kiss of death.
it’s just that over the past decade i’ve developed an intense dislike of the redbirds and I’d like to see them fail miserably in the second half.

there's a decent chance he overspends for Sheets or Sabathia in the offseason
no offense, but Sheets is more likely (it seems to me) b/c I think Sabathia is probably closer to being the elite pitcher.
if that does happen, we’ll be slightly improved over this year. might tread water for a couple years and see if Bobby Heck can rebuild the farm.

Have to say...
.... I thought his stroll out the box and the flip of the bat, not to mention the primal scream in the on deck circle were a bit over the line. Tony LaDrunk certainly isn’t above ordering a plunk. Given the history, it would be interesting to see how Yost reacts.

I never really thought about how the Cards & Stros are natural enemies because of their frequent battles, while the Cubs & Brewers are because of geography, which leaves…the Reds and Pirates to fight for…what exactly?

yeah cards & stros
has mostly developed as a result of being around the top of the division since they realigned, plus several big playoff battles. not one of the big rivalries though b/c it’s relatively new.
i still maintain the biggest outcome from that pujols HR in the playoffs was not Lidge (he was already coming apart), but the fact that we had to use Oswalt in the following game and then start Clemens in game 1 of the WS outside in cold, windy chicago. not that i’m bitter or anything.

Why does everybody assume
That Mark A won’t sign either Sheets or CC this off season? There’s money coming off the books by a lot. Sometimes I think you need to look at MLB like the NBA a little.
I’ve felt this way from the time the CC deal was made. I almost feel like this could be its own thread.
