Prince Fielder's Future
The future of prince fielder has been widely discussed, with a substantial portion of the population here assuming he'll be traded. The losers of the Teixeira sweepstakes this offseason could be very interested in fielder, although he doesn't have half the glove of teixeira. I would just like to see what types of packages people think we could get for fielder. Pitching would likely be the priority, probably shifting Gamel to first. These are a few packages i came up with.
Fielder to Angels for Ervin Santana and Brandon Wood (a possible 4A player, 3B/ss with tons of power and Ks)
Fielder to Royals for Zach Greinke (a BCB favorite!) and prospects (not familiar with their system)
Fielder to Giants for Matt Cain and prospects (don't think we could get Lincecum)
Fielder to Yankees for Joba Chamberlin (don't think it would ever happen, but i'd love it)
Fielder to Yankees for Phil Hughes and C Jesus Montero
Fielder to Blue Jays for Shaun Marcum
Fielder to Rays for James Shields and another pitching prospect not named David Price (couldn't get Kazmir)
The orioles and mariners would probably be interested, but they don't have much to offer
Sorry to spend time speculating, as i know it annoys some, but i need a diversion from the Brewers' past two performances

fielder
since fielders not crushing the ball this year, i’ll bet his arbitration contract will only be about 6-8MM.
that’s still very tolerable, and he’d still carry a ton of trade value in a year. it might be nice to have him around in 2009 even with a team that likely won’t be as strong as this year… perhaps to bridge the gap and help us realize exactly what our needs are
I'll warm up with you anytime

It's fun to think about
but we’re not going to trade a starting position player in the middle of a playoff hunt, even for Gamel.

I agree with ufoboy90
I don’t think it’s likely that Fielder is traded this offseason; DM would have to be bowled over with an offer. There’s no real urgency to deal him already, with 3 years of club control still coming, and a bunch of salary coming off the books in a few months.
Still, I also agree with marty22: it is a useful diversion from recent on-field woes.
It's called "playing the percentages."

Angels
If the Halos don’t sign Tex at the end of the year, I think they’ll probably give the 1B job to Kendry Morales next year. I don’t think they want to give up any young pitchers, since they’ll probably let Jon Garland walk at the end of the season and their starting rotation, while very good, isn’t as deep as it used to be with Kelvim Escobar’s future questionable. If Morales can’t cut it in 2009, then they might be on the market for a slugging 1B, but I don’t think they’ll make a big move if Tex goes somewhere else. If they were willing to give up a starter this offseason, I think it’s more likely to be Jered Weaver than Santana/Saunders.

If you're thinking about Matt Cain and prospects
for just Prince, which I don’t think is a viable option, how about him going to Seattle for King Felix?

I penned something about this:
If he's the Prince, then I'm the King.

It's amazing how a guy
heralded as the Second Coming two years ago is now grist for trade talk.
Given the fact that we now know Fielder is mediocre at first base and needs a very strong hitter behind him to get pitches he can spank, I think The Bopper will be a touchable for other teams.
Melvin is too smart not to consider the right trade involving Fielder, whenever it surfaces.
