Gallardo back by September?
"Gallardo is already throwing from 45 feet and could be back by September. It's a long shot, but the idea of Gallardo slotting in, perhaps even in the bullpen, is intriguing. It will be difficult to build up his arm strength enough to move him right into the rotation, and the team usually looks to the long term, but Gallardo did heal quickly from his spring knee surgery. There's a chance we'll see him again in 2008, but this is almost completely dependent on whether Sabathia is the difference maker that the Brewers think he is."

Wow
Gallardo back for the playoffs and in the starting rotation would make the Brewers the favorite to win the NL penant. Throwing Sheets, Sabathia and Gallardo 6 times in a seven game series with Parra taking the hill once would be pretty daunting to any opponent. You then have Bush, Suppan and McClung hanging out in the bullpen. One of them is in charge of hiding Mota’s uniform while another keeps Gagne away from anything round and white. It solves almost all of our problems with the team.

...while potentially causing another long-term problem if you rush Gallardo back before he’s totally right.
I don’t think you can bring him back before you’re sure he’ll be pitching in the playoffs. It’s not worth the risk otherwise.

Are there precedents here for pitchers returning from torn ACLs? I cannot remember a pitcher ever suffering this injury. I know Milton Bradley got back to baseball in less than 6 months. i also understood this injury to affect a football player for a year or more.
On another note: I was surprised to see Milton Bradley playing regularly for a team, and flat out shocked to see that he his hitting .320/.439/.605. I’m way out of touch with the AL, and the MLB leaderboards… oh well.
also, i think i’m going to try the no subject thing in honor of let’s go tribe… i feel naked.

my wife couldn't stop laughing for 5 minutes yesterday
Eventually I got her to let me know what was up. It seems she was watching a sports report where Milton Bradley was mentioned, and being the non-baseball fan she is, she had never heard of him before.

I actually hacked an auto-collapse function
just for your comments. :)
(not really. i don’t even have access to the source of the new SBN platform, and I would imagine I’m happier that way.)
Also, cheese.

Melvin
Today on “MIke and Mike in the Morning,” Melvin made a point of saying there is a chance Gallardo could be back in September.
