FYI

I thought I would be a good Brewer fan and throw some votes Corey’s way. Turns out, at this moment, the numbers don’t need to be typed in to vote for Corey. I took advantage of the glitch and had about 250 votes in 5 minutes.
My eyes are on fire and Im pretty sure I was in some kind of weird trance like state, but CC will make all things better in about 2 hours.

by brewfan2 on Jul 8, 2008 5:14 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I got excited when you mentioned the no numbers thing

Too bad it was fixed by the time I got there. I still threw him 30 or so more vote, though. Got me to thinking, if I was Corey I would get pay some neighborhood kids like 8 bucks an hour for like a day to just sit there and vote. I would think a couple hundred dollars would be a minor inconvenience in order to get invited to the all-star game.

It still works

You have to click on the area where the numbers would go and press enter instead of clicking on “vote now”.

Isn’t working on my end. Looks like you will have to take care of all the speed voting.

Damn You

Jeff and your crazy eastern time zone:) I was all confused about why they bumped the start time back… I thought maybe it was to try and make sure the game is sell-out or something, but no, Jeff just had to go all coastie on us.

Ummm...

I don’t think Al from evil BCB is quite right on this one:

Sabathia replaced not Seth McClung or Dave Bush in the Brewers’ rotation, but Jeff Suppan, who was placed on the 15-day DL yesterday with an elbow problem. This makes the marginal impact Sabathia will have on the Brewers’ rotation smaller. At least, that’s how I see it.

I foresee an estimation that Rich Harden will improve the Cubs by +6.02×10^23 wins.

Nice
6:27: CC Sabathia appeared out of the dugout with Jason Kendall and the two headed to the outfield to stretch and jog.

6:27.5: A group of four women raced from their second-level seats behind home plate with camera’s in hand, presumably to snap shots of Sabathia, who was going out to left-center field. That’s a hike for any fan.

From my college psych classes...

.... sometimes people just look for the answer to the question they expect, instead of answering the one that gets asked. There the ump probably knew it was going to be a close play, and he just looked to see if the runner beat the throw to the bag. When he did, he made his call without bothering to look to see if the runner slid past the bag. By the time Weeks pointed it out to him, he’d already made the safe call and there was no way he was going to change it, even if he realized he never bothered to look to see if the runner slid past the bag.

by Ted Simmons Speed Camp on Jul 8, 2008 8:17 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I get the initial safe call

by PagsBrewCrew on Jul 8, 2008 8:18 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I don't...

... but the runner beat the throw to 2nd in a close play, but then slid past the bag. He ended up about 2 feet past second, and Weeks brought his glove (with the ball in it) down on the runners back and held it there while the ump made the safe call. The runner was still off the bag (appearing to assume he was out) even while Weeks argued with the ump.

Gotta tell you I don't get it...

... is this the inverse attraction principle at work? I.E., the more masculine the activity (watching baseball) the more attractive the otherwise mediocre talent seems?

For instance, if you’re kayaking in a group and there’s only one single woman along, a 2 becomes an 8.

before the Saturday Twins game last month I was on the 1B side and she was doing the pregame report. I asked the FSN camera man next to me to zoom in on her and he said “she’s not that hot”. But it sounded like he was bitter after she rejected him one night.

ahhh..

I had forgotten why they run and who they are. Must say I’m a fan of that Klements commercial a ton more than the newer one they’ve been showing this year.

they can't really say outright

“we race because it’s an improvement on the County Stadium dot races”

...didn’t County have dot races, or am I confusing it with the tire races at the Metrodome? The 1980s were too long ago.

You're spot on

Five years ago, the Metrodome had a very mysterious fishing race game on its scoreboard. We never figured it out.

He's extremely quick and good.

by battlekow on Jul 8, 2008 8:43 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

The tires were pre-1994

Didn’t see the fishing game. I didn’t set foot in the Dome between September 1993 and September 2005.

Seeing the Twins being absolutely flustered by the sweet pitching motion of one Todd Van Poppel kind of killed that for me. Oh, and that strike.

There's Frankie,

and Guido, and Stosh… and Bratwurst, and Cinco, just look at ‘em go, because they kow: when you run out of Klements, you run out of taste! Now I got that damn song in my head. Curse you, Pete! I’ll be singing that the rest of the night…

Interesting question from my kid

anyone have an idea if Topps or UpperDeck usually produces a card for mid-season trades? He would love to get a new CC card in a Brewers uniform.

The Wallbangers won because they played the game like kids! Let's do that again!!!

by 80badger on Jul 8, 2008 8:41 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Topps has an "Updates and Highlights" set

that usually comes out at the end of the season. It’s the 21st century version of the old “traded” set.

Other than that, the companies do issue sets in the winter but they’re not the base set, it’s some high-end stuff or more gimmicky.

you're welcome

Doesn’t mean Sabathia will be in the set, though. Last year’s set had more “highlights” than “updates”. Also, it comes out in October so there won’t be any exciting Brewers playoff action in it.
