Game Thread #110: Brewers (60-49) at Braves (50-58)
The matchup tonight is Jeff Suppan and Chuck James. Apparently the lineup-juggling (including Corey sitting) will continue, so maybe by the beginning of next week, Ned will have taken all of the good hitters out of the lineup.
Game time is 6:30 CT, and here's the BR Game Preview.
Go Brewers!

Cameron
But he brings all that veteran leadership and gold glove to the field that Ned loves oh so much.
"You have no honor!" - McClung to Fukudome
Weeks
Here’s hoping he learned something from last night:

Hence my decision to call it "screwing around" as opposed to "in-depth study."
Now if that
isn’t a true Major League moment if I have ever seen one!

I think I'm going to make it
I toyed with taking an Alcoholics Anonymous approach to the next few days. Just make it very clear that I don’t want to “imbibe” in any Brewers games, highlights, news. Just kind of go about my life with a firm, 12-step commitment to “getting clean.”
Of course, that plan fell apart when I realized I’d fall off the wagon and start yelling pretty soon about failing to figure out Jorge Campillo’s changeup in the third time they’ve seen him this year. Are the Brewers facing him in this series?
Anyway, OK … (deep breath; in through the nose, out through the mouth) ... let’s go. Back at it here.
Could be worse
Just hoping seeing a guy for the third time might help a bit.

In addition to being pretty gritty and full of intangibles, he’s also good!

Oh ...
Anyway, it worked out. Struggling a little to get back into good vibes after that Cubs series.

lol...Ned the stats man
“Although he had intentions of sitting Hart another day, Yost said the decision to play him on Friday was made easier because the Braves sent left-hander Chuck James to the mound.
“If they had a righty going today, I might have given him one more day,” Yost said. “But he’s pretty good at whacking lefties around.”
Hart is batting only five points higher (.286) against lefties this season”
He'll be fine until the 5th

Yeah, he sure did
I wanted a signature, and that was the first heckle a guy at County Stadium ever said at a game when I was a kid. My Mom laughed, knowing I was too young to understand it, so now we just laugh about it when we go to games.

Good point
Man, how awesome is that ump’s called third strike move? It’s like he’s been shot when he cranks it up.

Yep, Rock
Rickie’s problem is just that he’s too dang quick for the game. It’ his only problem, Rock.

Where's the tomahawk-chopping cow?
Not that I want to see it in action this weekend, but they should at least show it once.

This James guy
is pitching BP. And this is just what the Crew needed. Take out some frustration on the little white ball
They'd be better off with Roger McDowell pitching
But not just yet. Let Suppan line one somewhere here to bring up Rickie for the Weeks-Cameron Batting Average Shootout ‘08

Only to an extent
That outing gave me flashback to 2002-era Brewers.

Still so way to go
to match the Braves average for the last 6 games.
They have given up 53 runs in the last 6, a bit different from the 90’s with Maddux,Glavine,Smoltz etc
Uh, Rickie ...
... are you bowing out of the Weeks-Cameron Batting Average Shootout ‘08?
Still, all called third strikes will be fun tonight. Who is this guy behind the plate? I couldn’t find an ump listing on Gamecast or Gameday.

Thank you

Glory Days
You know, there was a time when he was on the Indians that Tavarez was as filthy a guy as you could imagine. Or maybe that’s just my hazy memory, but I remember that guy in the ‘90s being just a terror.
Now, well, not so much.

UMP is out due to back issues. Was he the ump that left a series earlier this year with chest pains?

Braves announcers
I am listening to the local broadcast her in Atlanta. Pete Van Wieren is falling all over himself saying how good the Brewers are and in particular Cameron ” I always thought he make a great Brave” (he grew up in McDonough, GA), Weeks and Suppan (“what a great guy Jeff is, just an awesome person”). We also know of Pete’s love of Nedly. This is really hard to listen too!! Maybe we can send all 4 to Atlanta for Brian McCann!!
The Bambi's Bombers won because they played the game like kids! Let's do that again!!!
McDowell's mound visit
Notice they have an armed, uniform police officer step onto the field and watch the crowd during a mound visit? How paranoid is Atlanta? Wow.

3 up, 3 down...what are the odds?
go brewers
pitching staff and batters wake up on the same day, I guess.
Phils/Cards
Jenkins was just pinch hit for, despite being down by 2 with a runner on. Not exactly a vote of confidence in a former power hitter.
5-3 cards in the top of 8th.
Well, the pitcher on the mound was a lefty so it's no surprise Jenkins would be PH for
The Cardinals waited for the pinch hitter to be announced and then brought in Izzy.
