Game Thread #118: Nats (44-73) at Brewers (66-51)

Washington Nationals @ Milwaukee Brewers

Fun fact: Since the All-Star break, the Crew is 14-8.  Sure, half of those losses came consecutively against the Cubs, but I can handle this sort of second half performance.  As a side note, I'm rooting against the Dodgers, just for the novelty of having that many more August games against sub-500 teams.  LA is currently 58-58.

I've been steering clear of predictions lately, but I feel pretty confident about something this afternoon: Manny Parra is not going to throw a complete-game shutout.

The matchup this afternoon is Parra and John Lannan, who has been the bright spot in the Nats rotation.  Lannan is 6-11, but that reflects more on his teammates than himself.  His ERA is 3.55, and while his peripherals don't support that, his xFIP is still a respectable 4.36.

Game time is 1:05 CT, and here's the BR Game Preview.

Go Brewers!

Hey, speaking of images...

This is from last night’s loss to the Cardinals.

Anyone else notice the doorman had a big flag he flew?

I am curious to see how Manny comes out

I picture him looking over at Prince at first who is giving him the evil eye and making the throat cutting gesture lol

My personal feeling is that Manny will come out with a sense of purpose to show he has moved on.

Prince will hit for the cycle as a way of showing Manny is an ok guy ;)

Heading out to Miller Park right now

Oh ye of little faith.

Parra will not only throw a complete game shut-out, but a no-hitter as well!
Prince will be the first to congratulate him with their new handshake: “The Chokeslam”

Wait, what?

Who becomes our backup outfielder?

Branyan or Hall? Branyan has played extensively in the OF over his career.

by oconnobe on Aug 10, 2008 12:40 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Counsell

Or maybe Kendall :)

Visit my baseball blog ...or else!

by dixieflatline on Aug 10, 2008 12:41 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

I thought Counsell as well

then I found he has never played OF in his career. I’m sure he could do it, though … the grit factor.

by oconnobe on Aug 10, 2008 12:43 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Graffanino!

I would think it would be Branyan, in reality.

And neck size to baby eating ratio.

yeah

this year’s Counsell wasn’t good

It's only been like 19ish hours since they pulled him out

I doubt it’s improved that much during such a short period of time. Maybe it’s even gotten worse…

Too easy

More like they’re a few fries short of a mini-helmet combo meal…

which is too easy too, but I figured I shouldn’t criticize without at least offering another option

So this is the most patient day of Mike Rivera’s career.

Also, he had just two walks all year this year

But thanks to the Undead Jason Kendall, they’ve come in only 51 ABs.

Rivera has only played in 17 games including today

13 as catcher, two at first base, and the other two I assume he pinch hit in
