Game Thread #118: Nats (44-73) at Brewers (66-51)
Washington Nationals at Milwaukee Brewers, Aug 10, 2008 1:05 PM CDT
Fun fact: Since the All-Star break, the Crew is 14-8. Sure, half of those losses came consecutively against the Cubs, but I can handle this sort of second half performance. As a side note, I'm rooting against the Dodgers, just for the novelty of having that many more August games against sub-500 teams. LA is currently 58-58.
I've been steering clear of predictions lately, but I feel pretty confident about something this afternoon: Manny Parra is not going to throw a complete-game shutout.
The matchup this afternoon is Parra and John Lannan, who has been the bright spot in the Nats rotation. Lannan is 6-11, but that reflects more on his teammates than himself. His ERA is 3.55, and while his peripherals don't support that, his xFIP is still a respectable 4.36.
Game time is 1:05 CT, and here's the BR Game Preview.
Go Brewers!

I am curious to see how Manny comes out
I picture him looking over at Prince at first who is giving him the evil eye and making the throat cutting gesture lol
My personal feeling is that Manny will come out with a sense of purpose to show he has moved on.
Prince will hit for the cycle as a way of showing Manny is an ok guy ;)
Heading out to Miller Park right now

Oh ye of little faith.
Parra will not only throw a complete game shut-out, but a no-hitter as well!
Prince will be the first to congratulate him with their new handshake: “The Chokeslam”

Kapler hitting third, playing left, Rivera catching, and Bill Hall at third against the lefty.

Who becomes our backup outfielder?
Branyan or Hall? Branyan has played extensively in the OF over his career.

If he doesn’t pitch today I am expecting to see him on a milk carton.

But
Riske is not a myth! I’ve seen him!

Stages are a wonderful thing sometimes

That's no stage
He was standing on the grit that accumulates whenever Counsell stands in one place to long.

Who’d you get autos from?
Brauns line was way to long, Harts was as well. (I already had his).

I stood in Braun's line the whole time and didn't even get any autographs
I had a spy (read TheJay) go take pictures for me

Ahh.. I got there 2 hours early and Brauns was already a block and a half. So I got Torres and Riske.
I was to hung over (aka in need of a nap) to stay for the raffle. Hopefully he random guy I gave my ticket to won.

When I first looked at the picture,
I thought, who are those little kids with Counsell and Torres jerseys getting Riske’s autograph?
by Braunstalker on Aug 10, 2008 5:26 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
I found Riske!
Rather, I know who he might be hiding with

another chance coming up to extend his hitting streak.

Gabe Kapler denied him the chance
But I think he’ll be okay with that.

The question of the day has to be when was the last time the Brewers had that many walks.
by ol Pete on Aug 10, 2008 5:22 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
I am sure someone knows
I am usually pleased as punch when they walk 5 times….

Just was going to post that
May 10, 2003, in Cincinnati.
The Brewers record in a game is 15, done twice, first on July 17, 1991 vs. Seattle, and then again on September 15, 1993 vs. the Yankees. Both of those games were home victories, so those fifteen walks came in only eight innings.

It's worth noting
On June 20 this season, Orioles hitters walked eleven Brewers in a game.

The last time Kapler had a walk off hit
The Gabe scoring the winning run was traded away 5 minutes later. Anyone know if Kapler has cleared waivers?
