Game Thread #119: Nats (44-74) at Brewers (67-51)

Washington Nationals @ Milwaukee Brewers

Today's matchup is Garrett Mock and Dave Bush.  Mock, you may remember, joined the Nats organization a couple years ago when Washington sent Livan Hernandez to the D-Backs.  Mock is a decent prospect, and had a great year at Triple-A, posting an equivalent FIP of 4.12.

Game time is 1:05 CT, and here's the BR Game Preview.

Go Brewers!

Braun still out, Counsell at third, Kendall starting

The usual batting order applies.

Ronnie Belliard’s not playing first for the Nationals today. Too bad.

I'm not sure Kory Casto's any better

alarming that, for quite a while, Casto and Michael Hinckley were the Nats top prospects.

Also, cheese.

Belliard

is one of my (if not the one) least favorite Brewers of all time. Say what you want about grit, and I will agree, but that jerk had a complete inability to keep his head in the game.

Counsell

Maybe Ned is concerned with defense? Other than Russell pissing him off somehow what other reason could there be?

by ol Pete on Aug 11, 2008 12:29 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Like ususal, it's all about grit

Gabe Kapler is no Jason Kendall, and with Rivera’s obscene offensive performance we had a negative KUG yesterday. So it’s grit catch-up day.

I've had a terrible day so far, a Brewers win would help a little

That’s his first home run in Miller Park all season, isn’t it?

walking Kendall to get to Bush

that’s not a lot of confidence in your pitcher.

by ol Pete on Aug 11, 2008 1:38 PM CDT   0 recs

I know no one has suggested that Braun is out for the season, but if he was, would you sign Barry Bonds?

Could a young team like the Brewers

Handle a circus that would make the Favre thing look like a tea party coming too town every night.

That is what would worry me this team seems to have pretty good chemistry(for what that is worth) When Prince is not assaulting our pitchers could having ESPN camped in their locker room every day upset things?

he's fake?

kinda like marissa miller, braun’s new girlfriend

I read an article that said that he strained his back “swinging” in the first inning. Ryan: aren’t you aware you have a baseball game to play?

by PagsBrewCrew on Aug 11, 2008 1:58 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

a game to play tangent

This morning I heard a clip of Piniella saying that he doesn’t usually address the team but when they go down to Florida he was going to remind them of why they were there followed by a clip of DeRosa talking about spending time on the beach and how you can forget that you have batting practice coming up.

by ol Pete on Aug 11, 2008 2:02 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

They only chose her for the commercial because.....

......her last name is “Miller.”

Hart is on fire right now.

"Get up, get up, get outta' here, GONE!!!"

by BrewerLover on Aug 11, 2008 2:06 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Hart vs Counsell

Hart: Efficiently pounds the first fastball over-the-plate that he sees over the fence.

Counsell: Grittilly fouls off half-a-dozen consecutive fastballs over-the-plate before striking out.

I’d bet dollars-to-donuts that most “baseball men” would call Counsell’s the “better at-bat”. No?

It's called "playing the percentages."

by hilbelink on Aug 11, 2008 2:12 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Was that a HR with a runner on base?

I had forgotten what those looked like!

by Brew Angel on Aug 11, 2008 2:07 PM CDT   0 recs

well...

the runner was on first, not in “scoring position”

by PagsBrewCrew on Aug 11, 2008 2:09 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Its scoring position when Hart is batting!

"Get up, get up, get outta' here, GONE!!!"

by BrewerLover on Aug 11, 2008 2:12 PM CDT   0 recs

Good job by Kendall to get on

So we can clear the pitcher and start next inning fresh.

by Brew Angel on Aug 11, 2008 2:13 PM CDT   0 recs

-2.0 KUG but if he gets out of a bases loaded, no outs jam that is plus 2.5 KUG otherwise known as a Vargas.

by ol Pete on Aug 11, 2008 2:25 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

So just how many KUG were generated that inning?

I mean, the unassisted force out at home has to be worth a few KUG, right?

by Brew Angel on Aug 11, 2008 2:28 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

yeah...

what’s with that? unassisted force? not an unassisted tag out? Kendall actually ran BACK to the plate?

by PagsBrewCrew on Aug 11, 2008 2:29 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Just listening on the radio

But I don’t think it was hit very far from the plate. Last year, a play like that would’ve involved stepping on the plate, then throwing the ball to first for an impossible double play only to have the ball hit the runner and the guy from second coming around to score.

Man, Nats fans have to be mad right now

I’d be frustrated if the Brewers had the bases loaded with no one out and couldn’t score.

I mean I have heard of them but have you ever really seen one ;)

Just teasing I actually feel for the Nats fans because we lived that life for quite awhile here.

They paid Dunn 13 Million and Griffey 12.5 according to Cots.

They’ll still owe a bunch to CoCo though.

I had to chuckle at a Reds guy who renamed him Soso Cordero

by ol Pete on Aug 11, 2008 2:45 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

$23.5 million

$25.5 million in salary would’ve been freed up anyway when both were free agents at the end of the season, but they only have to pay half of Griffey’s $4M buyout now.

Hopefully they will spend it as wisely as they did last off season

I was in Cincinnati last week for the Wednesday game boy the Reds fans are in an ugly mood about that team and I do not blame them

If they dump Baker, I think they could have a good team. They’ve got some decent pitchers to build off of.

I thought they should have kept the interm guy they had last year

The Reds were playing good ball towards the end of last season.

Harang came back off the DL and got lit up yesterday But they do have Bruce to build around and the two young pitchers

Con: It’s Ned
