Baseball out of the Olympics
So as many of you know this is the last year for Olympic baseball but Synchronized F#$%ing Diving is a 'sport' - and there are 4 different medal events. There are even 6 medal events for equestrian sports - Do they give a gold medal to the horse and the jockey? Do they drug test the horse? Baseball & Softball are out - Synchronized F#$%ing Swimming is in....

well...so do I
...you’re not suggesting that Baseball become a winter olympic sport, are you?
P.S. My wife thought that biathlon was snowshoeing and archery… sigh… Although come to think of it, that would be even more entertaining – simple/longbows only though, none of that compound bow crap.
P.P.S. She watched men’s sychronized diving yesterday. I said “MENS?????” She reinforced my suspicions as to the affectations of the contestants.
P.P.P.S. One of my best (female) friends in college was a synchronized swimmer. Doctor now, I think.

Baseball is out for the 2012 but could be back for 2016

You will, of course, note how the gentlemen in the photo for the linked story respectfully kept their jerseys tucked in, despite the joy of having just won an Olympic Gold Medal.
It's called "playing the percentages."

Is it because the 2012 games are in London and there is not enough time to teach the cricketeers how to play a real game? I once tried to watch a cricket match on TV. I fell asleep, woke up 4 hours later, and the same team was still batting. The other team had not even gotten their turn yet. People that think a 4 hour baseball game is too long should try to watch a 10 hour cricket match.

Don't some cricket matches last for days?

"Test" cricket can last up to five days, I believe.
In any case, I find Synchronized F#$%ing Diving rather interesting to watch, but then I’m in total Olympics mode right now and find a lot of it interesting to watch…

I watched that yesterday and when there is a 15 year old boy competing it doesn't seem like much of a sport.

You do realize...
that lots of competitive swimmers (particularly women) have also competed at world-class levels around age 16 and earlier, right?
To say nothing of other sports such as tennis…

The youngest Olympian ever was 10 years old. If he was alive today, he’d be 122, tied for the oldest living person ever, excluding Brahma.

It is rare to see a boy competing with men, and when it happens, it seems to make the "sport" less worthy
The rare exception is Michael Phelps in 2000. I think he was 15 when he was competing, but he’s from another planet.

The youngest age they let into the Olympics is 14
So I don’t see why it’s that big of a deal to see a 15 year old. It’s just that most of the youngest people are in gymnastics or ice skating so you probably don’t see them all that much unless you follow those sports.

The difference
Many times it’s females that are this young competing. The male body matures much later than the female body, thus not allowing boys to compete with men. This is why synchronized diving is stupid.

The Olympics are so weird...
They constantly show swimming, gymnastics, track, blah blah blah, but I had to switch to MSNBC to get hightlights of Roger Federer play tennis. Don’t even get me started on how I’m unable to figure out how to watch a soccer game. Why don’t they show popular sports as well? I know it’s a time to showcase some sports that don’t get as much attention otherwise, but with coverage on four channels, how much swimming do we really need to watch?
"I think this decision could go either way," Baseball Tonight legal analyst John Kruk said.

Soccer has been on Telemundo
As for swimming, people want to watch what the U.S. is great at.

I think
the bottom scroll on NBC says the Oxygen Network is broad-casting some of the games. There’s a joke in there about what Olympic events you’d find on the Oxygen Network, if anyone cares to play.
I can’t get into Olympic sports where the athletes are, like, 14 years old. No 14 year old should be the best at anything, except maybe XBox.
Also, to be able to compete as an Olympian at the age of 14, it probably means your parents were waking you up for 4am practices since you were, say, 5. That’s just wrong.
"I will agree that the attitude [at BCB] is ridiculous and they have done so much to instigate animosity and then block us from responding. Real mature!"

It is worse than that
While skimming through the channels last night (I can’t stomach the gymnastics coverage so I don’t stay to watch), they noted that in China, the girls are taken from their families at 3 years old to start Olympic training. They are only allowed one family visit per year.
I have no idea how you see potential in a 3 year old, but the entire concept is pretty sickening.

not only sickening
but the precedent? soviet russia and the rest of the eastern bloc. I think China has taken it to a whole nuther level, though.

The upside is that their women athletes will have great second careers as linebackers
