Those records in the headline do a pretty good job of summarize the state of the NL West and Central this year. If the Brewers were in the West, we'd be in first place by 7.5 games. (The Cubs, if suddenly relocated, would be up by 12!)

The matchup tonight is between a pair of great young pitchers: Manny Parra for us, Chad Billingsley for them. It might be a good day for Cameron to take a rest--in his 18 PAs against Billingsley, he has an OPS of .170. OPS.

Game time is 9:40 CT -- 10:40 for me on the east coast, which might mean I'll be in bed *before* the game starts. Here's the BR Game Preview.

that reminds me

in high school, my american history teacher, an elderly guy, insisted that “Deep Throat” was so-named because the source had a deep voice.

I had just read the Woodward & Bernstein book, and knew that to be wrong, and argued with him—the irony being that all I knew was that it was the name of a porno…I don’t think I yet had a good grip on what the term referred to. But he was quite insistent :).

well, I didn't want to get into a bunch of scenarios in the post, but...

I’d rather have Cameron in there (it IS only 18 PAs) if the alternative is a Kapler/Nix outfield. I was thinking Braun might be back, in which case it wouldn’t have hurt too much to give Cam his first day off in a while. (since 8/3, anyway)
