New Blog: Five For Howling - for Coyotes fans Bar-right-arrows

Game Thread #125: Brewers (71-53) at Dodgers (63-60)

Today it's the so-boring-this-is-the-last-I'm-going-to-mention-him Jeff Suppan against the personification of hype, Clayton Kershaw.

If you haven't seen Kershaw's minor league numbers, check them out--they're pretty ridiculous. Usually players who are the youngest in the game are up for a reason (think Robin Yount), and Kershaw is the real deal. He and Billingsley are going to form a scary good two-headed ace monster at the top of the Dodgers' rotation next year; between the two of them in LA and the Cain/Lincecum/Sanchez troika in San Francisco, there's some amazing young pitching in the NL West. Throw in Brandon Webb, Dan Haren, Randy Johnson, Jake Peavy, and Chris Young, and, well, let's just say I'm really glad we're in a division with the Pirates and Astros instead.

Game time is 3:10 CT, and don't forget to check out the BR Game Preview.

I listened to about an hour interview with the guy who runs that thing. My favorite was the explanation for the number of species and how they only took two of each “type” of creature on the Ark. In the following few thousand years was when all the differentiation happened.

You'll like this

That’s actually from UW-Madison’s Botany site. Nothing like one of the major state university’s biology programs propagating the fallacy that evolution is somehow progression and that some things are "more evolved’ than others, not to mention the misconception that humans are the descendants of today’s extant monkeys and apes.

They're testing the instant replay system in Cincinnati today

There’s a video box in the tunnel off the visitor’s dugout with a phone that connects them to Big Brother in New York, where they can choose video angles a la carte.

It's bad luck when the Crew

Rock steals from L.A. Times

T.J. Simers column in the L.A. Times about the Kent-Vin Scully thing makes a crack that next week Kent will start bad-mouthing the pope. Rock on the broadcast says saying Vin Scully talks too much is like saying the pope prays too much.

Yeah, not the biggest deal in the world, but c’mon. Pope jokes, Rock?

Weeks had 3 on and whiffed

Then Cameron gets a solo four bagger knock. This is the FIRST inning the Crew didn’t get the leadoff batter on base. So, NATURALLY this would be the inning for the BIG HIT. AAARG!

There is a distressing pattern here and we all know it.

Is there such a thing as team RISP? The Crew can’t be high up on THAT list.

After the game, I’ll put up a short one I did with unsigned 32nd-round pick Colt Farrar, a HS righty from Texas, and tomorrow afternoon you’ll get Rookie-ball pitcher Nick Tyson, who has what BA called the best curveball in the system coming into the season.
