Game Thread #128: Astros (64-62) at Brewers (72-55)

Houston Astros @ Milwaukee Brewers

Last time Manny Parra and Wandy Rodriguez faced off, Wandy came out on top.  Of course, Michael Bourn had an extra-base hit, since he's had 16 of those this year, and he has to cram those into a small number of Astros-Brewers games.  Rodriguez has only had one good start in four tries since then, though, while Parra has...uh, also not been very good.

Game time is 1:05 CT, and here's the BR Game Preview.

Go Brewers!

Who?

"He's been very, very impressive," Yost said. "I mean really impressive. I mean really, really impressive."

Oh wait

Isn’t he that mythical beast that has been spotted in and around the SE Wisconsin region, but has yet to be scientifically proven? I bet it turns out to be a Kendall wearing a Rivera costume just like that bigfoot “finding” this past week.

Why play Weeks?

reduce offensive production??? Nice plan Nedly!

The Bambi's Bombers won because they played the game like kids! Let's do that again!!!

Was this comment meant for Tom H's blog?

Weeks has a .273/.369/.432 line since the ASB and a LHP is on the mound. Makes sense to me.

I wonder if he's healthy

Did you see him flinch and draw his hand up to his body a couple days ago? He’s got a reputation for downplaying his health problems.

I’m beginning to wonder if the training staff is competent.

by ol Pete on Aug 20, 2008 12:05 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

He was sat for a few days due to a sprained thumb.

Hopefully he’ll come off an injury like he did last year and rip the ball.

by SgtClueLs on Aug 20, 2008 12:21 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Who's this kid they have catching?

I guess now that Kendal scored his millions for next year, they can let Rivera play.

In play, run(s)

I had to wait a few seconds to find out there was also “out(s)” on the Fielder sac-fly. Stupid Game-Day, getting my hopes up!

It's called "playing the percentages."

CC cured Ian Snell:

Two nights ago, while riding in a taxi through the downtown here, he flicked on coverage of the Milwaukee Brewers’ brilliant CC Sabathia throwing strikes, and he became fixed on that little screen. He headed into a shopping mall, but kept checking and seeing strike after strike after …

“I couldn’t take my eyes off CC,” Snell recalled. “And you know what? The more I watched, the more I knew what I had to do.”

And so, he took the mound last night and tore through St. Louis for seven scoreless innings and eight strikeouts to carry the Pirates to a 4-1 victory last night at Busch Stadium.

Rivera

1 AB and not a hit?

BACK TO THE BENCH FOR ANOTHER 6 WEEKS!

by SgtClueLs on Aug 20, 2008 1:43 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

But GIDPs are gritty, aren’t they? Sure, not Kendall-gritty, but at least you make the defense work. No? Okay. Back to the bench it is. [hides]

by hilbelink on Aug 20, 2008 1:46 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

At what point does Rickie become gritty

Sub-par average, some power, sees alot of pitches per AB, close to team lead in HBP, impressive split between average on OBP. He has all the tools for a good KUG rating, once everyone forgets he was the second pick in his draft.

by Getting Yosted on Aug 20, 2008 1:59 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Not to get too cheeky, but...

Sadly, there definitely seems to be a racial component to perceived grittiness.

Just a quick note.

Weeks and Fielder’s official stats for this game so far:
0 AB, 2 R, 2 RBI
Nice.

by Rendezvous on Aug 20, 2008 2:03 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Loretta is also notable for another, topical reason

He has the Brewers’ record for most 2-SF games in a season; he had three in 1997.

by SgtClueLs on Aug 20, 2008 3:11 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

by SgtClueLs on Aug 20, 2008 3:31 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

By comparison

Hall is 36 points off his OPS from last season, which was 159 points off his OPS from 2006. Although I doubt it’ll come to pass this way, but we’ll be in the market for a 3B next season, even if his name is JJ Hardy.
