Game Thread #129: Making it up as we go
It's already the top of the 3rd and the Brewers are down 2-0. I'm convinced no game thread has caused this, so here's a little different shot at it. To recap: Nyjer Morgan gets on, steals second, then comes around on a pair of ground balls. In the 2nd, Jack Wilson, who sucks, I should remind you, doubles to center and then Zach Duke pokes one into center to drive him in. Not good. Not good at all.
But, a game thread has the power to change all that, see?

No Game thread + Retros.. that’s a pretty big curse.
OK, baby steps
Well, it’s something. At least there was a RISP. Plenty of time to turn this around.

I know Bush was due up first in the 7th, but haven’t we been hearing for two weeks now how everybody in the bullpen is well-rested? If that got uglier, why not bring in Shouse or Riske (depending on situation), and then bring Gagné out for the 8th?

These fans suck
First.. they don’t fight LaRoche for the ball. Now they get fan interference? This is un-acceptable. I hope the Brewers give out information packets for the first 2 rows.
I love the guy
But, man, can Braun be a prick sometimes. 4-run lead and he’s stealing third. Is that against the “unwritten rules”?
Use the brown eye, ump!
by Bay View Brewer on Aug 22, 2008 9:11 PM CDT reply actions
About those rules...
The Brewers lost a game they led 5-0 in the 9th inning this year, as I recall.
Stealing third (to score on a ground out) seems like fair game to me when defending a 4-run lead with two innings up for the Pirates.
(shaking head)
It’s like the Pirates not only doesn’t want to win this game, they’d like to induce as many Pittsburgh metropolitan area baseball-fan suicides as possible.

weird boxscore on gameday
I just got back (nice inning) and checked the boxscore on gameday. It says that Bautista pitched to 3 batters in the 7th (0 innings), but somehow he is down for 4 earned runs. I’m assuming it’s a mistake because otherwise I can’t see how it is possible, but if anybody wants to enlighten me, I’d appreciate it.
I guess the box score should say 4 batters faced.
by keephopealive on Aug 22, 2008 9:24 PM CDT up reply actions
Thank goodness it’s the pitching. A stunning beauty who can’t find the strike zone or finds it a wee bit too well is no use to our bullpen.
a pitcher like that may be of no use yet still be used by you know who
but, he was throwing his change up for strikes and hitting the black with his fastball. Not to say his fastball, as straight as it is, isn’t scary. I think he threw a curve ball for a strike although it yielded a hit.
Really, more of an overall impression.
Not your imagination
It’s wishful thinking. I know, because I’m doing it too.

When he gets outs...
it still looks like he didn’t make a great pitch, the batter just hit it to someone, or didn’t expect a changeup at the letters
OK, folks
I’ve had fun on the impromptu game thread tonight. I think tonight, the Brew Crew Ball community has conclusively proven it has the power to affect an outcome. I’m going out for a friend’s birthday.
And again, apologies to Jeff, Battlekow, RogueJim and anyone else with “a set of keys” to this place if putting a game thread into a fanpost screwed anything up.

I thought you were, but it still zinged over my head, but I just got it. I don’t think of Seth as pretty. You can be the judge of that. I like his war face when he gets intense.
I probably would have made the same joke if Julian Tavarez was still with the team.
Yeah, I’m horrible.
I like McClung’s range of expression; I only wish he would have the opportunity to be intense more often (which is about the same as “wishing he was left-handed” because only Shouse is getting regular work around here.)
two more left handed pitchers to follow
I wonder if the regular at bats will help Billy. He looked better tonight although he couldn’t look as bad as the last game.
Just sayin'

Dave Bush’s career (H+BB+HBP-GIDP)/IP: 1.24
BCB's "very own marginally deserving all-star!"
I saw a similar graphic on FSN (I think)
with Bush’s last start. I believe they compared Bush’s career numbers thusfar to a similar number of games from Glavine to start his career. The numbers were well in Bush’s favor, IIRC.
It must be kind of cool if you’re Tom Glavine, where every lefthanded starting pitcher is always compared to you.
