Off-Day Open Thread
Now that we've taken our turns against the Pirates, the Cubs get their chance. (We get them again soon, too.) Tomorrow we start a two-gamer against the Cardinals.
Possible topics for discussion:
- Will the Brewers ever lose again?
- Will Ned ever pull CC before the 10th inning again?
- Should Erik Komatsu be called up when the rosters expand?
- Would it be more appropriate if Walter Young was acquired to help the roster "expand?"
- Is this gold medalist Elena Dementieva's year at the US Open?

CC
Perhaps this made it in the appropriate game thread. If so, please ignore.
But if the Brewers lost yesterday, would this be a retroactive Yosting? If they’d pulled him with the sizable lead his last time out, maybe he could have gone farther yesterday…

Did pitch count really have any bearing on CC getting removed from the game yesterday?

If they had a lead when his spot came up in the 6th
He probably would’ve gone farther yesterday, too. Manny Parra had a few outings early this season where his day was cut maybe an inning short because the team needed offense and his spot was up.

Where's Sabathia headed?
Via MLBTR, Jon Heyman says CC’s first choice is the Giants.

Is there any shot the crew are going to go after him?
I could see a Sabathia Gallardo headed rotation being just as effective as the current.

hmmm...maybe that's the solution
Set up a fishing barb on 200 lb test line (they don’t seem to make 400lb test) and hook him. Struggle with him a while (giving him some line and reeling him back in) until he submits!

Lower in that article
he says that the Yankees are disappointed with A-Rod’s production this year, and then dismisses the fact that he has the second-highest OPS in the AL by reason that he “hasn’t had many clutch hits”.
This is the same guy that invented the term “VORPies” :).

Hmm
I was at the understanding CC was STILL pitching :)
I kid. My thoughts on call ups, if they’ve produced, they should get some consideration. Got to just take things with a grain of salt though for the different levels they play in.
God that last bit was a John Maddenism wasn’t it? ._.

This is almost a dream season
While this season has so far exceeded my expectations (concerning record), it comes with some heavy dampers on it. I am doing a great job enjoying every moment of winning baseball I can savor, but I am far too big of a fan to be able to do that without thinking of years to come. It certainly appears right now as if this could be the best team we put out on the field for at least a few years, though saying so discredits the work Doug Melvin has done to build this 2008 team.
However, the Cubs have been having the true dream season and appear to be running the anchor of a magical 100-year journey back to a World Series championship. There’s plenty of room for the Cubs to choke (this week would be a good start) but Cubs fans have as much reason as ever to believe that this is their best shot yet. And it’s hard to refute them. Unfortunately, these two seasons have come the same year and one will have to negate the other.
Next year we likely won’t have Ben Sheets or CC, though our rotation still looks pretty strong with Gallardo, Parra, Suppan, a rejuvenated Bush who seems to be at the peak of his career, and possibly McClung as the very-early prediction. Cameron will be gone barring a re-signing (I wouldn’t be against it), our bullpen could scatter, and we’ll probably still be stuck with Weeks. So it doesn’t really seem so bad.
Now to answer the questions:
-Yes, possibly as soon as this week
-Not after Sunday
-Hm, I thought that whole minor league deal was over with when Ryan Braun was called up
-No, with Prince and CC in the same clubhouse players have already had to cut portions
-I don’t care, as long as she has to pick up a couple of tennis balls during the tournament
