Game Thread #112: Brewers (62-49) at Braves (50-60)
Milwaukee Brewers at Atlanta Braves, Aug 3, 2008 12:35 PM CDT
The Brewers are going for the sweep, but it isn't an easy task, with Crew-killer Jorge Campillo on the hill for the Braves.
Game time is 12:30 CT, and here's the BR Game Preview.

Oh my God...
Mike Cameron is actually on the bench. Kapler will probably get 3 hits and then be on the bench tomorrow.

Kapler's AB's so far today
were some of the worst AB’s of the season, on a team that includes Hall & Weeks. Tough to do…..

He had 2 hits, something hall, weeks, and cameron rarely do.

Sucks we couldn't have used this lineup with CC ...
... and had our first lefty-dominant nine of the year. I guess four ain’t bad, for us.
Proudly rock your Tararrel in public.

Talking of CC
A slightly different interview with him here
by Saltire on Aug 3, 2008 12:14 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
Prince over the last week...
... according to FSN, is batting .429 with 5HRs and 6 RBI.
It’s got to be tough to hit 5 HR in a week and only end up with 6RBI out of the deal. I knew that teams were pitching around Fielder with guys on base, but that stat puts it in pretty stark terms.

Campillo dominates Left handed hitters
Kind of a questionable lineup
by Flag Up on Aug 3, 2008 12:49 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
He dominates right handed ones as well.
by ol Pete on Aug 3, 2008 12:51 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Last time they faced, Campillo- Weeks had two hits, Rivera one, Cam one. While CC and Branyan went hitless. Throw in Kendall with an o’fer. Just saying.

Sheet will not be going deep into this ball game
If they keep having at bats that last this long…
by Saltire on Aug 3, 2008 12:54 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
He’s probably sweated off that last ’s’ by now anyway

I still say he is wore out with out his usual DL break

I need to stop flipping between games
I got up to get something from the kitchen, forgot I had the Red Sox game on, and came back and wondered why Craig Counsell was batting righty.
It was Jed Lowrie.
They do look a great deal alike, so that’s my excuse.

Ha
Yankees just had bases loaded with 1 out. Nady hit a fly ball to left for the sac fly, but abreu tried taking 3rd and Jeter didn’t hustle home resulting in no runs when abreu got tagged out at 3rd for out 3 before Jeter crossed the plate.

Ditto
It definitely wasn’t Mike Rivera or a current Brewer. I have to assume it was a bat boy or another clubhouse employee.

so it's a good thing I missed that inning then?
I think I need to add a new data acquisition point to my pursuit of finding out where and when McClung should not pitch. (adds “above 30 degrees C” to the list
(Hey, they’re playing “Blue Monday”—is that the cover, not New Order, though?)

He wasn’t sharp, but the velocity is back.
Can’t hear Blue Monday.
by ol Pete on Aug 3, 2008 2:45 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
The velocity is always back in his relief appearances because he tends to throw as fast as he can. He performs better when he’s being a pitcher, not a thrower. But that’s good to know that at least his arm isn’t “dead” any longer (heh)

Can we clone Counsell?
Or is second base a sucking black hole of defense for ever and ever?
(Apparently McClung left his control in St. Louis, too.)

starting pitcher platoon
Can’t really say how much it is responsible, but players involved were pretty good before and not so much after. I wonder who thought it was a good idea and who didn’t.

Oh, what the hell...
I thought this game was tonight. Looks like I didn’t miss much though.
In other news, Pirates just tied the Cubs in the 8th.

A sweep would've been nice
But a series win on the road is always okay. Hopefully the back end of the rotation can win the series in Cincy.

Not that I'm counting or anything...
But Sheets has had exactly 1 win since June 23.

A 4.50 ERA for Ben over that seven-game stretch
Three quality (or mediocre, if you’re Jim Powell) starts, an outing 1/3 of an inning short of another QS, two bad starts, and the San Francisco game after the All-Star Break. Not great, but worth more than one win over the span.
Manny Parra only has one win since June 28 in a string of similar starts. It helps when the offense scores most of their runs before the starters leave the game.
