Game Thread #135: Brewers (78-56) at Pirates (57-77)

Milwaukee Brewers at Pittsburgh Pirates, Aug 30, 2008 6:05 PM CDT

It'll be interesting to see what happens in September--the Crew has been seriously hot as they've plowed through the second division (ok, the fourth, fifth, and sixth divisions) of the NL this month.

In the meantime, we've got two more games against the Pirates.  Tonight's pairing is Jeff Suppan and Paul Maholm--hardly a lock for yet another victory in Pittsburgh.

Game time is 6:05 CT, and here's the BR Game Preview.

Go Brewers!

Umps in Cub Series

Seem to be unable to get a correct call with close plays at first. Bummer.

Run would have scored regardless.

by SgtClueLs on Aug 30, 2008 3:31 PM CDT reply actions

Wow.. Phillies got one. Looks like Howard missed the tag.

by SgtClueLs on Aug 30, 2008 4:06 PM CDT up reply actions

that one yesterday was outrageous

On Chicago radio today they were orgasmic over how the Cubs just find ways to win. I guess they look on the umpires as part of the team.

The replay of the umpire giving Fukudome a walk on a strike was pathetic. Fukudome was confused by the whole thing and had to ask what to do.

by ol Pete on Aug 30, 2008 4:07 PM CDT up reply actions

Yep

They covered that again on todays broadcast. Horrible calls. I know I have my Cub Hater glasses on (Beer goggles for baseball) but they seemed pretty outrageous calls.

3 - 1 Phillies T6

Not sure why they sent Howard, he was dead at the plate if Soto would have protected the line better. Ball was slightly up 1st base side, but I think if Soto was deeper on the plate he would have been cold.

Someone should tell Tom about Kremblas breaking the call-up news:

Among those being considered to be called up are pitchers Mitch Stetter, Tim Dillard and Mark DiFelice, catcher Vinny Rottino, outfielder Tony Gwynn Jr. and infielders Joe Dillon and Mat Gamel.

Thank god the JS stays so on top of things so I don’t have to!

Battlekow, what did you do?

At the bottom, it now says the moderators are Jeff, Jim, and Dixie. What did you do to get kicked out of that club?

Wait, what?

by NoahJ on Aug 30, 2008 5:06 PM CDT reply actions

Haha, nothing

It says the mods are Jeff, Jim, and me, and that dixie, KL Snow, and John are contributors.

Not on my computer.

I know it was before, but I just looked down there now and there aren’t any contributors, with Jim, Jeff and Dixie as mods. Is it just my computer?

I need some good soup tonight

Brewers better win. I had such a crappy night last night. I got called by our work alarm company at 2am due to a break in. Get there, they have 3 in custody and another 2 somewhere in the plant. (The old plant is huge lots of places to hide). I got to sit outside for another 5 hours while the police and sherrif departments do their things. K9 unit was able to hunt down the other two. Sadly no one was bitten. 7am we finally are able to clear the building and get inside.

Just some broken windows and graffiti. Got back home around 8:30am, and off course it’s bright out and I can’t sleep. Damn kids… they make me want to punch baby seals.

It's just a more polite way of saying "went on the DL with suckitis."

(and then Suppan’s suck was transmitted to Dave Bush in the form of confusion related to platoon infection—luckily Bush was cured quickly.)

He’s talking about the interview of Frank Kremblas about September callups, and just gave credit to Brewerfan.net for the link. It’s great to have a media guy like that, unlike Haudricourt who just guesses who is going to get the call.

I try turning it on the TVs during whatever class I'm in.

Most of the teachers get pissed at me, but occasionally one likes the brewers (or me) enough to keep it on without the sound.

Wait, what?

by NoahJ on Aug 30, 2008 8:37 PM CDT up reply actions

I do this also

usually I’m forced to make a compromise situation where I get to turn it on for the last few minutes, or check in periodically.

Sat: George 2 (37, missed catch, fielding) Fri: George (35, throw) Tues: George (34, throw)

by Jordan M on Aug 30, 2008 8:39 PM CDT up reply actions

Yup, once the teaching is done

and we’re waiting for the bell I usually can leave it on. Sometimes if we have worktime. Otherwise, I just go on any nearby computers and put on gameday.

Wait, what?

by NoahJ on Aug 30, 2008 8:41 PM CDT up reply actions

I have to say

that’s amazing that your teachers let you have the game on, even without the sound or for quick check-ins.

by Oakland Brewer Fan on Aug 30, 2008 8:41 PM CDT up reply actions

Well, not all of them.

Like I said before, only the ones that like me or the brewers enough. And even than hardly at all. Plus, I don’t know about Jihad, but I’m not in a big city, but a smaller city public school so it is a touch more of a laid back atmosphere. As long as I still get my homework done :)

Wait, what?

by NoahJ on Aug 30, 2008 8:44 PM CDT up reply actions

well

if it helps you get your homework done on time, then I guess motivation is motivation….

by Oakland Brewer Fan on Aug 30, 2008 8:50 PM CDT up reply actions

Kinda a similar deal here, as you said, it all depends on the situation.

You could consider Kimberly a small school, I guess. If you live in Wisconsin, you might have heard of the Papermakers considering we own at every sport imaginable :)
