I am confused(imagine that)

are we rooting for the Cards or the Cubs

I am leaning towards the Cubs(since we can TCB our selves) and you have to get into the playoffs to have a chance right.

A loss tonight puts them back to 5 games right.

If Loving CC is wrong I do not want to be right

by WSB Chris on Sep 10, 2008 7:50 PM CDT reply actions

You beat me to the thought

Cards would fall 4.5 back with a loss. Temporary dead heat with Philly.

by Et tu Brewte on Sep 10, 2008 7:52 PM CDT up reply actions

I'm still not entirely clear

Who to cheer for. People don’t think the Cubs are really catchable, do they? St. Louis is the enemy here?

by Et tu Brewte on Sep 10, 2008 7:51 PM CDT reply actions

Cubs not catchable?

If the Cubs lost tonight, the Brewers would be 3.5 back, 4 in the loss column. If the Brewers went 4-2 in their 6 remaining games with the Cubs, that means they’d have to play 2 games better than Cubs in the remaining games to tie them. Unlikely? Sure, but not ridiculously so. It’s a lot more likely that the Brewers catch the Cubs than that the Astros win the Wild Card (roughly twice as likely according to BP).

I'm rooting against the Cardinals

I’m not rooting “for” anyone, but I’m rooting against all of our competitors for the WC.

In this situation, the best thing to root for is extra innings.

no clear answer

one is a competitor for the division, the other for the wildcard.

by ol Pete on Sep 10, 2008 8:07 PM CDT up reply actions

According to BP

The Brewers’ chance of winning the division is at 9.6, and the Cards’ chance of winning the WC is 8.6. Pretty close, and of course those are not gospel.

BCB's "very own marginally deserving all-star!"

by battlekow on Sep 10, 2008 8:12 PM CDT up reply actions

depends

How is the wild card round (NLDS) set up, anyway, is it best division winner vs the wild card, and the #2 vs #3 seeds? Or is there wiggle room for how the records of the 4 teams ends up?

In the first scenario, , the way things stand now, the brew crew would face the cubs in the first round of the playoffs.

Switch it around (Brewers first, best record in NL overall), at least they’d have home field, not that it helped the last time the Cubs were in Milwaukee….

by ahtrap on Sep 10, 2008 8:12 PM CDT up reply actions

But since it seems more likely that the Cubs continue to tank than the Cardinals starting a rampage, I’d be willing to take the 0.5 loss in WC, 0.5 gain in the division.

Hey, we won!

It’s amazing what the boys (i.e., Brauny) can do when I’m not in class.

Rays vs. Sox

Are American League games always this slow?

We've got uniforms and everything, it's really great!

by drezdn on Sep 10, 2008 9:11 PM CDT reply actions

Weird

Maybe I missed something, but in the Sox/Rays game in the bottom of the ninth there were runners on 1st and second with 2 outs. The Sox dude hits to the third baseman, who instead of going for the force out at third, throws to first (and gets the out via bad umping). Unless the guy on second had already passed him, why not go for the out at third?

We've got uniforms and everything, it's really great!

by drezdn on Sep 10, 2008 9:16 PM CDT reply actions

I’m guessing but he was probably several steps behind third base and several to the side of it, so its not as close as it looks on TV. The throw to first is probably considered more of a sure thing and if he put some mustard on that throw he would have actually thrown him out.

by ol Pete on Sep 10, 2008 9:21 PM CDT up reply actions

For some reason, I can’t reply.

No, AL games are not always that slow. Red Sox games on ESPN, on the other hand, are. Also, isn’t Sonnanstine one of those pokey pitchers?

And, yes, I’d like to have Balfour back pls. Of course, if Balfour was in that little situation tonight with the Brewers, 2 runs would have scored and the Sox would have won.

by ol Pete on Sep 10, 2008 11:13 PM CDT up reply actions

Holy cow

With yesterday’s loss, St. Louis fell into 4th place in the NL Central. Forget the Cardinals, it’s the Astros we now have to worry about. The Stros are 4 games back, the Cards, 4.5.

Also…did you know that Julio Franco was, for a brief moment in time, a Brewer? Back in 1937…I mean, 1997. I had no idea.

I remember

and he was already like 40 or close to it. He still amazes me. I saw a game a couple years ago at RFK (crappy stadium for a crappy team). The highlight was seeing this 48 year old Met hit a HR!
