Game Thread #149: Brewers (sucking) at Phillies (surging)

Milwaukee Brewers at Philadelphia Phillies, Sep 14, 2008 12:35 PM CDT

It wouldn't be a Brewers season if I didn't title a game thread like that.

I know that whenever I want a losing streak to end, I always hope that Dave Bush will be on the mound to end it.  (Well, okay, maybe not.)  Joe Blanton is pitching for the Phillies.  Few of our guys have faced Blanton, but Kendall did catch him for a while, and Ray Durham has a 1.273 OPS in 11 PAs.

And Mike Lamb has faced him.  Seriously, has anybody figured out why he's on the team?

Game time is 12:35 CT, and here's the BR Game Preview.

Go Brewers!

Kremblas

Can anyone explain why he was fired? Was it a professional courtesy?

No

Apparently he was pretty upset about it.

I don’t get it then. Is it a move to protect Yost form “Hire Frank Kremblas” chants?

A cover up

Lets hope he wasn’t parading around naked in front of his hotel room window, like a certain Brewers minor league manger of a year ago.

by statsllc on Sep 14, 2008 12:26 PM CDT up reply actions

complete speculation

He was given conditions where he would be considered or would actually get the job. Those conditions are here or near. Word wasn’t kept and saltiness occurred.

by ol Pete on Sep 14, 2008 12:46 PM CDT up reply actions

Super-duper awesome lineup today, boys

RF Corey Hart
SS J.J. Hardy
2B Ray Durham
1B Prince Fielder
LF Ryan Braun
CF Mike Cameron
3B Craig Counsell
C Jason Kendall
RHP Dave Bush

Corey Hart has a .290 OBP in the second half! Maybe he’ll at least take some pitches before grounding out to short today.

That's funny

When Yost started up the bullpen in the first inning yesterday, I almost commented that you could tell he was frustrated and that I half-expected to see a picked-out-of-a-hat lineup today.

…I haven’t been watching the game (I’ve been on the Packers out of not wanting to die) but… … ……. well,

HOW DO YOU CHANGE IT UP AND NOT TAKE DOUCHEBAG MCGEE KENDALL OUT!?!?!? AND THEN PUTTING HART LEADOFF!?!?!?!?!?!?!? WHAT!?!?!?!?

Todays lineup

Are we officially in panic mode now?

by statsllc on Sep 14, 2008 12:13 PM CDT reply actions

Real panic mode would have been starting Rivera in place of Kendall.

by morineko on Sep 14, 2008 12:19 PM CDT up reply actions

How about Mike Lamb at third base? I have been waiting for that one.

by statsllc on Sep 14, 2008 12:28 PM CDT up reply actions

Well, he did spend half the season as a starter in Minnesota before he got hurt and the Twins miraculously discovered that Brian Buscher was actually better.

I’m not surprised that Minnesota let him go; from what I can tell the preferred variety of infielder there is “utility” which explains Nick Punto, Brendan Harris, and Matt Tolbert.

by morineko on Sep 14, 2008 12:32 PM CDT up reply actions

Also, there's this

Lamb: .233 .276 .322, 2 HR
Counsell: .230 .337 .309, 1 HR

Sadly, Counsell is a better option this year, anyway. Although Gamel would be a good call in my opinion, if you’re trying to shake things up. A heck of a lot better than Ray Durham hitting third, I think.

Sat: George 2 (37, missed catch, fielding) Fri: George (35, throw) Tues: George (34, throw)

by Jordan M on Sep 14, 2008 12:35 PM CDT up reply actions

Lamb definitely didn’t live up to expectations in Minnesota (and how the heck is Nick Punto running an OBP of .340? No wonder Lamb got the boot….)

Yeah, if there’s going to be experimentation Gamel would be a nice experiment. Counsell, we already know. Oh, do we know.

by morineko on Sep 14, 2008 12:39 PM CDT up reply actions

Alcides

Is there any reason he couldn’t play third base?

Also, take one of your best OBP guys, move him from leadoff in favor of one of your worst. I think even the most fervent “lineups don’t matter” fan would be shaking their head at that.

Oh my

I think Bruce Bochy < Ned Yost. Read this paragraph and try to notice what’s wrong with it. Keep in mind that the Giants are at .007 chance of making the playoffs.

Saturday night, Lincecum fulfilled the possibilities that tantalize observers virtually each time he takes the mound. He recorded his first career shutout, limiting the San Diego Padres to four hits in the Giants’ 7-0 victory.

Lincecum (17-3) knew how to reach the summit. After firing his 138th pitch of the evening past a swinging Edgar Gonzalez for his 12th strikeout to end matters, Lincecum paused briefly.

Yost - ed

Coffey, DiFelice, McClung, Torres, not Shouse, vs. Burrell

McCarthy’s playcalling with a lead is positively Yostian.

by HRF on Sep 14, 2008 2:58 PM CDT reply actions

Yosted again?

at least its not brandon jackson dropping balls. He can suck my balls

I just sit back and root for the taser

by Hyatt on Sep 14, 2008 2:59 PM CDT reply actions

And Yost will still be arrogant in the post game press conference, insinuating that he has superior baseball intelligence versus any writer/fan

by statsllc on Sep 14, 2008 3:00 PM CDT up reply actions

screw him

if we miss the playoffs, all that superior baseball intelegence won’t mean shit in the unemployment line

I just sit back and root for the taser

by Hyatt on Sep 14, 2008 3:03 PM CDT up reply actions

I'm pretty sure most brewer fans would rather

see yost fired than the brewers in the playoffs

by tcyoung on Sep 14, 2008 3:03 PM CDT up reply actions

no...i want the brewers in the playoffs

if we had a shot next year without yost, I’d go for the fire now…

but given that we have no chance next year, I want the playoffs now.

by PagsBrewCrew on Sep 14, 2008 3:06 PM CDT up reply actions

I too would rather have the playoffs now

but with yost at the helm, I’ve come to the realization that it is unlikely

by ol Pete on Sep 14, 2008 3:04 PM CDT up reply actions

Yay Packers TD

At least a team knows how to win.

by SgtClueLs on Sep 14, 2008 3:04 PM CDT reply actions

analogy

John Kitna is to the Lions as Yost is to the Crew.

What’s Tom Treblehorn doing these days?

by heybatterbatter on Sep 14, 2008 3:06 PM CDT reply actions

by PagsBrewCrew on Sep 14, 2008 3:09 PM CDT up reply actions

So glad I'm unable to watch game 2

As much as I’m trying to remain hopeful, I’m really not wanting to watch that game at all.

(At least Shouse can’t come in again?)
