Lamb deserves
to start at third on Wed night…why not give him a shot?
"I don't know about you guys, but I think it could use some more cowbell..."
Hi guys
I’m just a friendly Cubs fan who just likes to talk baseball, thought I would stop on by. You guys did really well! How ’bout that Yost, amirite? This Prince fellow sure can hit us, huh?
Ryan Braun: He loves it.
Hilarity

It is interesting that Kerry Wood can't pitch vs the Brewers
I think he has 7 ER in a few appearances
The designated hitter rule is like letting someone else take Wilt Chamberlain's free throws.
This has got to be the best mood I've been in after a loss in awhile
I’m calling a Lamb start at 3rd tomorrow.
My only regret is that I have but one life to give to my blog
You're right about the mood
Good game, crew. Just happy that they scored more than three runs, kinda.

The hitting looks like it might just be coming around (at least Prince)
We've got uniforms and everything, it's really great!
as Prince goes, the team goes
hopefully…

That's almost all we need
We’ve never had more than 2 or 3 players hot at the same point during the season.
Tim Allen talking about how much he hates Chicago
saying Chicago is one of, if not the most overated city in the world
I love the city... I live here
Can’t stand the fans of Cubs/Bears
But Milwaukee is just not as exciting for young people… I think anyone living in the midwest and under 30 should move to chicago because it is a great city to live in
If you have a family… maybe Milwaukee is better… taxes are ridiculous here, but I think it is a beautiful city with lots of exciting things to do
Anyways, who cares about cities… talking about baseball
The designated hitter rule is like letting someone else take Wilt Chamberlain's free throws.
Milwaukee is changing for the better though

It’s too traffic-y for my tastes, but the museums are cool, and I used to love shows at the Metro (most Milwaukee clubs are better though)
We've got uniforms and everything, it's really great!
Love the city
And after four years living there, LOATHE its suburbs.

So it’s time to get back in the rebuilding mode. Do we trade Rickie for what we can get or do we hope he comes around? Do we live through Gamel at third and see if his misadventures continue? Who should we trade Hardy and Prince for? What can we trade Corey Patterson Hart and his .311 OBP? A bag of balls? What level do we start Jeffress at? Can we just please cut Jason Kendall now or is anyone dumb enough to trade for him? Yes, I know we’d still end of paying him. Cameron’s gone. Why pay him ten million on a nonplayoff team? Who plays center? Not Gwynn I hope. Guy’s a nonprospect. What’s the rotation going to look like? Gallardo/Bush/Parra/McClung/Suppan? That’s not helping anybody. Maybe Odorizzi will go David Price on us and get ready by season’s end and be ready for 2010. I mean it’s completely unlikely but future hope’s all that’s left right now.
/completely demoralized
I’ve lost the flame… I can’t carry it any longer for this year. Seeing Jason Kendall bat in the ninth inning seemingly every day for the last two weeks has destroyed my spirit.
The economy is fundamentally sound

Sarcasm
Quasi-Yostian Kevin Bacon in Animal House “remain calm all is well” kinda thing…but also a little serious – team does need some revamping, and maybe 2009 will be a down year. Long term looks good though.

It depends on what they do to fill their Sheets hole. We’ll have some extra money to spend and some good trading chips.
We've got uniforms and everything, it's really great!
I love Sheets
I’ll be a Sheets fan forever, but I don’t think the end result is so good that it can’t be made up for. There is a big group of free agents. I expect they’ll pick up one or two. A bullpen arm or two, do some shuffling at 2nd and 3rd and go at it again.
More thinking positive
I don’t think Fielder will struggle as much next season as he did this one, or that the team will start out as cold.
The Cubs have several players up for free agency and several players who will be less effective from age alone. However, will the Cards (maybe Pujol finally gets his elbow fixed?), Astros and others be down enough for us to succeed?
We've got uniforms and everything, it's really great!
Maybe not
But I’m prepared for it. Purely a rotation concern here.

I think the first step is firing that Yost character.
Sat: George 2 (37, missed catch, fielding) Fri: George (35, throw) Tues: George (34, throw)
I think I've figured it out
The team plays tight when they are in the lead (be it division or wildcard). By being a 1/2 game out they will play a lot more loose now. They just have to make sure not to overtake the WC leader until the last game though.
My only regret is that I have but one life to give to my blog
loose?
i think if they slip to 3rd place in the WC they’ll start walking around like zombies

Happy News
Prized right-hander Yovani Gallardo, out since he underwent knee surgery in early May, threw 50 pitches in a simulated game on Tuesday in Phoenix. He will throw again on Friday and could rejoin the Brewers next week, most likely as a reliever.
“There was always a chance that he would pitch before the end of the season,” assistant general manager Gord Ash said. “But we weren’t going to tell you guys that because we didn’t want to be on the ‘Gallardo watch.’ … The way that we approached it is that if he came back, it was a bonus to us. We didn’t count on it. We didn’t want to put undue pressure on him with a timetable.”
Gallardo was mobile enough on Tuesday to cover first base, back up bases and do everything necessary to field his position, Ash said. Minor League pitching coordinator Jim Rooney and Steve Kline, the pitching coach for Milwaukee’s rookie-level affiliate in the Arizona League, monitored Gallardo’s outing.
Before Ash consulted with Rooney and Kline, there was some thought that Gallardo could immediately re-join the team, according to general manager Doug Melvin. Instead, he will pitch again on Friday in Phoenix.
“What we have to be careful of is that there is obviously a lot riding on these 12 games,” Ash said, referring to Milwaukee’s remaining regular-season slate. “We don’t want to be foolish because there is a very, very bright future here. We’re not going to take a short-term gain for a problem down the road.”
Sat: George 2 (37, missed catch, fielding) Fri: George (35, throw) Tues: George (34, throw)
That is f'ing awesome, by the way

I assume that's the father of the guy who never cleaned his hat?
Also a major league pitcher. (in the 1970’s)

Okay, I guess he's not related to the more recent Steve Kline
But still, I mean the righty from the 70’s.

Actually
Looking at the Brewers media guide and Minor League Affiliates page, the Arizona pitching coach’s name is really Steve Cline. He’s been a coach in the Brewers system for 13 years. Crazy. Here’s his picture from the media guide:

Probably the first and last time he gets talked about on here. :)

Lets hope he makes it back, we can use the bullpen help! It may take him awhile to get back to big league form though…is that a gamble you want to take with only 11 games left? Do you think he can be ready for a wild card race? Only time will tell….
Yes it can (not saying it will)
Don’t want to mess Yo up longer term if he’s not ready.

Another good point
Why put him in jeopardy if he might be your #1 guy next year? That is if CC and Big Ben both go elsewhere with free agency. Is it the right move? Or is the team just in panic mode?
He needs to come back, if only just to bean Reed Johnson.
We've got uniforms and everything, it's really great!
Why?
I guess I don’t see how it was his fault Gallardo got hurt.
Obscure baseball records and more at my blog, Recondite Baseball.
Lou sounds like he's either tippling in the dugout
or starting to suffer from age related problems. Mumbling and called Prince Cecil.
That started two years ago when he was in the broadcast booth
He talked in incomplete sentences, “I love when the pitchers cover their mouth out there on the mound….”

telling jokes that nobody gets
Earlier I made a reference to Bobo and L’il Debbull. Did anyone get that?
On Sportscenter they showed JJ’s diving catch and throw and they talked about Frank and Joe. I get that because I’m old, but does anyone else get that?
is that billy castro protecting the bullpen
from gagne and turnbow?

Oh my god!
That was totally my favorite movie as a kid.
"Brett Favre looks like a man in a parking lot playing with boys." - John Madden
"Pujols just unloaded." - Bob Uecker
Not much time left in Milwaukee
But I’m sure we could arrange to have a golf cart give Gagne a ride to the mound the next time he’s called upon. Call it protecting Dale from himself.
Obscure baseball records and more at my blog, Recondite Baseball.
When Gagne is sitting out in the bullpen, he should work on moving the walls back
to protect himself from himself
