Not All Revelations Are Good
In thinking back over last night's game, I'm still a bit confused about something.
CC Sabathia got a loss? Really?
Surely, I thought, this must be a first. But no, it was Sabathia's 72nd career loss, and 9th overall on the season. Did you guys know about this? Do you think Melvin knew about this when he traded for CC?

either that
or, at least, the Indians shouldn’t get a PTBNL.

and once again, I’m mystified as how the win/loss/save rules work.
Sabathia gave up 4 earned runs before he left after 7 innings.
The final score was Chicago 5, Milwaukee 4.
Therefore, Sabathia did not give up the winning run. I know this, because I was watching the game and saw the wrong Blanco get a hit off of a white guy to give the Cubs their 5th run. Why is CC being tagged with this loss? Doesn’t make sense to me….even as i know “why” it’s happening.
Reminds me of a game a few years ago, it involved the Dodegrs for sure, may or may not have been Brad penny, in which the LA pitcher gave up 6 runs in teh first inning and then was either yanked or tossed, and the inning ended with no further damage. The game ended up something ridiculous like 15-12, yet the pitcher who left in the first inning still got the loss…something about how his team never caught up from the mess he made….

the problem with your reasoning
is that relievers would generally get tagged with losses, since they give up the last runs. For example, CC gave up 4 earned runs in seven innings. If he continued to pitch all 9 innings at that rate, he would have given up another 1.14 runs in expectation. So imagine that a single reliever had come in an given up one run over the 8th and 9th inning. By your method, he would get tagged with the loss even though he gave up runs at a lower rate than CC.
Obviously, this is not what happened in the game last night, where Villanueva gave up the run in only 2/3 and inning for a game ERA of 13.5.

It depends on whether the team that is losing
ever took the lead during that same game.
If Sabathia had given up 4 runs through 6 but the Brewers were still losing, then the Brewers took the lead at some point but then ended up losing the game anyway, then he gets a no decision and the Brerers pitcher that gave up the runs that caused the Brewers to lose would get the loss.
The mere fact that he did not give up the ACTUAL losing run makes no difference. The Brewers naver took the lead, so CC wears the crown of thorns

Yost isn't doing anything, why don't you have him appeal it?
Better yet, why don’t you have Melvin hire Tony La Russa? He’s a lawyer. Every time you don’t like a ruling by an umpire, an official scorer or the official rules, you can have him sue MLB. Maybe you can get the Astros involved and have a class action suit.

I thought
this quote from Prince after the game was clever—
After losing his battle with Wood to end it, Fielder was asked if he felt snake-bit.
"I don’t know," he said. "I’ve never been bit by a snake."

Snakes qualify as meat, so he tries not to get too close to them

I'm sure they'll try to make an offer.
But nothing record-breaking. If it gets even somewhat close to Santana pay, as is the general consensus, the Brewers would never be able to afford that. So, yeah, he’s as good as gone.
Though—and someone correct me if I’m wrong—I think he said he would really want to come back if the Brewers won the world series. So….yeah.
Bye Ned!

They can certainly "afford" him
but making a commitment for 7 or so years to 1 pitcher might be a risk they don’t want to make. I think they’ll let him walk, take the two picks, and keep the wheel-a-turnin’.
Sat: George 2 (37, missed catch, fielding) Fri: George (35, throw) Tues: George (34, throw)

I'd think
they would at least try to throw something on the table. It’s my feeling that what the Brewers do with Prince will play a big role with CC. I don’t think it’s to far of a reach to keep CC in Milwaukee.
