Jersey Patch for 2009
It’d be glorious to celebrate their mediocrity as a team not just as a fan base.
Glad I congratulated you in the other thread...
…BTW, how many championships have the Brewers won? Oh yeah, that’d be ZERO…

Is it okay for us to joke around?
Can we be excited about the changes in our team? Is it alright to gloat a little on our own thread?

Supposedly it makes them better than us because they won a million years ago?

I'm not one of those that thinks were better or worse...
…but Cubs fan base is definitely NOT “mediocre” as stated above…We’ll fill up a stadium no matter where games are played.
Listen, not trying to pick a fight…actually came over here to say congratulations.
Hoping you guys get the wild card.

make our city's population the 3rd largest in the country
and we’ll pack stadiums everywhere too.
duh.

Idiocy = Showing up at a fan blog for your opponent and getting offended by its content.
I have an unreasonable dislike of Bill Hall.

Remember that time you did something? Know, you can’t. Because the Titanic sank AFTER the Cubs won something of importance. There’s your historical time span. Glad that our “didn’t do anything club” can get this under your skin.
See you in the playoffs...

Just looked at the boxscore again
Awesome, I totally blanked that Gagne pitched the 7th. Positive side-effect of watching the Cubs feed until the 8th inning, I guess.
“The Brewers will start RHP Dave Bush on Thursday on three days’ rest. Sveum said Wednesday that the other starting pitchers may have to do the same. "Anything could happen as far as the pitching goes,” Sveum said. “Every game will be like a playoff game. … Anything goes, probably, the last week of the season.”
I’m… intrigued.
Hey, it's not like we have a shot at re-signing him.

why not pitch McClung and keep everybody on normal rest?
I guess there is hope of an answer – that’s unique.
Especially since Dave Bush is supposedly such a creature of habit that he couldn’t handle not starting every five days earlier this year.

watched highlights of the Pirates Dodgers
Pirates were strokin’ it and Dodgers were bootin’ it. Pretty ugly including a Manny being Manny.
Garciaparra hurt his knee. I’ll bet he’s out for the year.
He just wanted to be Touched by Torre

Gallardo and Sheets
Doesn’t it seem like Sheets and Yovanni are rarely ever active at the same time?
We've got uniforms and everything, it's really great!
I wonder if we've seen our last Sheets win as a Brewer
Dave Duncan seems to get nutty good performances from pitchers. Can we hire him after the Cards season is over? Post-season rotation: CC, Suppan, and ?
nothing wrong with some off-speed pitches
junkball can own if done properly

maybe....
maybe they’re like matter and antimatter – they can’t exist in the same place at the same time or there’s a megaton^nth power explosion. this would explain why sheets can’t hit, but gallardo can as well.

sheets
Sheets departed after the second inning, but he revealed that he has an ailing elbow that has bothered him for some time, to the point of receiving an injection a couple of weeks ago.
“My elbow has been bothering me for awhile now,” said Sheets, who began feeling discomfort again while facing Derrek Lee in the first inning. "We’ve been fighting it off for awhile. I couldn’t get the ball where I needed.
“We got an MRI earlier and it’s not anything structural. The first time I felt it was in St. Louis (Aug. 26). We’ve done a great job since then, keeping me out there. It hurts.”
I untuck my shirt!
Why do I get the feeling that Sveum only pitched him tonight because he had to? First he pulls Sabathia at 99 pitches, and then DiFelice is got up in time to take over in the third inning.
sabathia was not pitching well
and sheets came out injured
that’s sveum’s fault?
I think he made the correct calls, although sabathia MAY have settled down and no hit ’em the rest of the way…

Fault? No.
He isn’t making his pitchers run up ridiculous pitch counts even in crappy games and he pulls a guy who gets hurt. That’s not fault, that’s a sign of intelligent pitching management.
I wish we could get rid of Sheets
and could get CC to stay

question: why not let sheets skip a start and see if there's improvement? (closer to when the problem developed)
"Cubs fans boo again – 99% of these people can’t see the plate." -Ueck
why not let sheets pitch on short rest the next time out?
‘cutting’ shmutting. i really don’t care about what condition the Astros receive him in. He only threw 24 pitches tonight. Hustle him back out on Friday in place of the Clung. Make Gallardo his partner for the rest of the year and hope the Sheets/Gallardo tandem gets through 6 together.
Tararreling our way to the finish line.
bennie's in the red at this point.
he owes us. short-rest start would be the only way to make it up. if yovani’s toughing it out for a premature return, ben should too. bennie’s legacy as a brewer is at stake. Massive Vagina (as is currently the case) or guy who laid it on the line for us in September (as would be the case if he rushed back)? The latter is the way to go, Sheeter.

"bennie’s legacy as a brewer is at stake."
So’s an eight figure salary. Parades and coaching jobs until 2050 if they make the playoffs or not, that’s a pretty big incentive for Sheets to not monkey around with his elbow. Teams like to say, “it’s a business,” when a guy is let go but this time the tables are turned.

if he's injured
really, truly injured
he should go on the 60 day DL so we can sign someone salary dumped from random sucky team X if the opportunity presents itself that that player is actually good or “fills a hole”
I don’t want a mid-80s fastball pitcher serving up meatballs, as sheets would be doing if his injury progresses.
Sheets is a sunk cost.
