Game Thread #138: Mets (77-61) at Brewers (80-57)

New York Mets @ Milwaukee Brewers

Let's try this again: Guaranteeing a .500 season on September 2 would be pretty nifty.

The matchup is Manny Parra and Jon Niese; for Parra (and everybody else), you can go to the BR Game Preview; for Niese, check out TheJay's great fanpost or Niese's MinorLeagueSplits.com page.

Game time is 7:05 CT.

Go Brewers!

Weird 'O'

I really prefer Jonathan to Johnathon (as Niece does it). His first name seems to suggest that we’re going to be subjected to a really long game, in which he goes the distance.

It also could be used to suggest a a really long + grueling visit to the bathroom. And that’s what I hope his first MLB start is like.

Proudly rock your Tararrel in public.

And "Jonathon"

The only John- I know is Johnathan Rice, who played Roy Orbison in “Walk the Line”.

From JSonline:
And here’s an interesting little development. As I write this blog, right-hander Yovani Gallardo is throwing a simulated game to a handful of Brewers hitters. Gallardo has been out since May 1 with a torn ACL in his right knee and the Brewers have maintained it is a long shot that he will pitch again this season.

But to be at the point of throwing a simulated game means he’s not that far away from being ready to pitch in games. The problem the Brewers have is that the minor league season is over and therefore he can’t go on a rehab assignment there.

handgun, knife, and your choice of rifle, shotgun, etc. But 3 weapons only, unlike halflife and unreal tourney where you’re carrying around 28 different weapons and running around at the speed of sound.

Gotta figure that PIT series could be a great opp to send him out there.

Billy Castro

He could probably still throw it in there alright if you didn’t use him too much.

I would have liked to have seen some McClung during blow-outs. Maybe more Riske to see if he’s got some problem to be so unreliable.

But other than Torres and Villy not much.

Yost will never say anything negative about the team. Unless it’s C.V. then he’ll throw that dude under the bus.

Are you talking about how Gagne is the 8th inning guy?

That was a big part of it.

by ol Pete on Sep 2, 2008 9:08 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

He's been pretty good since the all-star break

And he still hasn’t gotten the 8th inning role back, so that’s a good sign.

True

He has been better but it seems more lucky than good a lot.

That doesn't keep Ned from giving him the 8th inning over the last month of the year.

I wouldn’t be surprised, and i wouldn’t really blame him all that much, with Riske scuffling and Gagne being Gagne. I’d rather see Villy in that role personally, but it’s not like there are a lot of good choices out there after Torres, Shousey and Villy.

So here are a couple of crazy thoughts

first, using the starters on their normal pitch days between starts for the 8th inning. Second, use Torres for two innings every time.

So the Cubs have homers by DeRosa, Soriano, and Soto

And now are losing 4-3. I can picture the sportscenter highlight now….

The thing is after this series the Cubs have 6 home games and 16 road games

And the home games are against us and the Cards. They have another series at the Astros, at the Cards, a four gamer in New York right at the end which could be huge for the Mets.

(And you know what you get when you assume…)

Boy. Gagne really shut them down there didn't he?

I mean, 3 up 3 down, that was clearly dominating stuff. No problem. He’s my 8th inning guy.

Luck? What do you mean luck? You guys have no concept.
