Thanks for doing this
Sabathia can go Wednesday and Sunday on three days both times, and I think they’ll do it. You can probably pencil him in there for both spots.
If Sheets can pitch, he’d go on Friday or Saturday for sure. Suppan for the final game of the Pirates series after Sabathia on 9/24. Clung probably starts the Cubs opener (maybe in a shift with Gallardo, 3 or 4 innings each?) If Sheets can go on Saturday, hooray, if not you can do DBush on 3 days again. Lots of options right now. So here’s what I’d guess:
9/24: Paul Maholm, LHP (9-8, 3.68) vs. Sabathia
9/25: Zach Duke, LHP (5-14, 4.96) vs. Suppan
Cubs @ Miller
9/26: Ryan Dempster, RHP (16-6, 3.02) vs. Clung/Gallardo
9/27: Jason Marquis, RHP (10-9, 4.39) vs. Sheets if possible, DBush if not
9/28: Rich Harden, RHP (10-2, 2.03) vs. Sabathia

Why do we listen to anything Doug or Gord say?
McCalvy says Gallardo could start a game in tomorrow’s game notes:
The Brewers expected to learn more Monday about the availability of right-hander Yovani Gallardo and third baseman Russell Branyan, both of whom returned from the team’s instructional league program in Phoenix. Gallardo, sidelined since May 1 by a torn right knee ligament, is an option to start a game on the homestand.

I didn’t even know Branyan was there.

It's like they're trying to hide him
If he’s fully healthy, he had better start at third base. I will be royally pissed off otherwise.

Love That Stat pull
Was just curious to see how we did under the Branyan reign and off it. Something out the fear of the muscle that just makes other teams afraid to oppose us! …when he started anyways.

Unquitters never win
Winners never unquit?

His reign is now over. Too bad for us Packer fans…

CC for the potential one game playoff on regular rest is also interesting
If we are one game back coming into play on Sunday I think the right move is to hold CC back to Monday as you will have to win both games.

I'd rather just get to Monday and see what happens ...
even if the scenario does suck: flying to NY late-night while the Mets get to sleep in their own beds before the one-gamer. if only we were better at calling coin tosses (and not striking out and not choking as well).

another result of that coin-toss:
Jose Reyes’ Road Beef doesn’t get to visit the Pfister.

FWIW.. there were some changes announced by the radio crew tonight
for the Cubs rotation down the stretch. Left-hander Sean Marshall is now expected to go Tuesday night, with Zambrano holding for Wednesday, and Harden moving to Thursday against the Mets. My guess is that leaves Lilly-Dempster-Marquis going against you guys on the weekend as Piniella sets up his playoff starters.
Good luck with the Pirates, in the spirit of “may you prosper, so long as your interests are not in conflict with mine”.

Thanks for the update
Tip ’o the hat to Piniella too, if I recall correctly we were expected to hit Harden previously. Maybe he can find it in his heart to bring back Rich Hill for one last game this season?
For some reason I just now realized that the Cubs have a pretty good incentive to lose to the Brewers (i.e. – getting to play the Dodgers in the first round).

Another reason the Cubbies should lose
Potentially not having to travel more than 90 miles for the NLCS, with all the comforts and advantages of (forgive me for a moment) Wrigley North. C’mon Cubbies. Help us do what we may not be able to do ourselves…

FWIW
Last night was the only right-handed starter we’ll get from the Pirates, which, I presume, is a good thing.
Also, what’s with Zambrano’s ERA? 3.77 seems pretty high for him.

You can plug in Suppan for Friday, too- they announced it today
The only remaining question is if Sheets can go Saturday, and if Sunday is important enough to pitch CC.

Why can't McClung pitch instead of Soup?
he didn’t have to pitch yesterday in relief of Gallardo.
Then you can have a Soup/Bush tandem on Sat or even save Bush for the play-in game (if needed) or bump CC to the play-in game if we’re tied or up one. If we’re tied in WC, you have to have CC (or someone really really good) in the pen able to come in for Bush.
